Sticky Buttons

Stick gummy controls
Jag told me because I live in Florida and subject to high heat. After fighting with dealer and Jaguar regarding the same issue on my 12 XF Portfolio, Corp offered 60% in the dealer at cost. However would not tell me that cost. I told them thanks but no thanks.
After hours of some goo gone and noxeema wipes with q tips I got all the gummy coating off. They are whiney black. Be careful not to rub hard or the white button icon will rub off .
Same car dash delaminated , fought again for corp support. Cost me about 3,000 to replace a known defect
They are not what they used to be, my last one
QUOTE=Ceckman;1787386]I have a MY’13 XJ that still has a couple months of warranty left. I am just noticing that my center dash buttons have developed the sticky residue phenomenon I have read about (which I understand many vehicles have as a common issue from a number of manufacturers of this vintage / not unique to Jaguar).
For those unfamiliar, the buttons feel like they have been used by someone with sugar / candy coated finger tips - yet the stickiness will not wipe off.
I believe it is a faulty surface coating that has deteriorated from age and / or possible heat exposure (I live in the Desert Southwest).
I wonder if anyone has pursued a warranty claim for this issue and if so - any suggestions on that pursuit?
Of course if anyone has a “solve” for this other than via Jaguar - I would be interested. Thanks.[/QUOTE]

How I removed the sticky mess..
I had read somewhere to use olive oil and Dawn dish detergent. I put a small amount of both in a tiny bowl and rub it on the surface, within seconds it loosened the goo up and wiped off with paper towel. I used a q-tip to get into the corners. I then cleaned with my normal dashboard cleaner to shine it up!! Super easy!!

How I removed the sticky goo
I had had heard about a solution of olive oil and Dawn dishwashing detergent. I actually put a teaspoon of olive oil in a bowl along with a drop of Dawn. Used my finger and rub this solution on the sticky area and within a few moments, it was removing it, ALL of it! On the corners, I used a Q-tip and when I was done, I just cleaned with my normal dashboard cleaner to shine it up. Worked perfectly and all natural. My XJ looks great and no gooey mess.

Not sure what part of Florida you live in but Jaguar of Fort Meyers assisted me in getting the buttons replaced on my 2013 XJ that was out of warranty. Jaguar picked up 90% and I paid aprox $500. Was an easy and pleasant experience. I do all my service work there so probably helped. I am the second owner and bought from a different Jaguar dealership.

I agree that 100% would be reasonable and maybe if I had pressed harder they would have. None the less I am quite happy to have it repaired. Many years ago Toyota had a similar issue with some of their dashboards becoming sticky and cracking. They stepped up to the plate and covered all of them under warranty. Even cars that were 10 years old at time of repair.

I used what I had, but the YouTube video used Neutrogena brand wipes. Basically, you scrape the sticky residue to the edge with pressure from your finger with the wipe, and then wipe it away from the edge also using the wipe. I went through multiple wipes to accomplish this.
Thanks!

My dealer is standing by their product and going to be replacing the sticky buttons and various trim pieces next week on warranty. "Iowa" says earlier in this thread that he had the same done and the dealer replacing 15 parts? Does someone have a list of the parts that get replaced so I can make sure that he dealer does them all?
