Default Switching AM/FM modes easily

So on my XJ, when I hit and press and hold the Mode button on my steering wheel it cycles through the FM and AM modes, however I have to do this 3 times to get to AM and then another 3 times to get to FM, because it goes:

FM1
FM2
FM3
AM1
AM2
AM3

Each mode above seems to be able to store 6 channels, I don't see the point, can I not just switch between AM/FM by one click?

You can't do it in one click, but it's much easier to switch between AM/FM using the radio soft key on the NAV screen rather than constantly hitting the mode button on the steering column. When you touch the Radio soft key from the Menu screen all six choices (AM1, AM2, AM3, FM1, FM2, FM3) appear on the screen at the same time. You can then touch whichever AM (or FM) soft key you want at that point.

Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks, I already knew that I could do that from the screen, but its difficult whilst driving to do that, was looking for a way to clear out all the FM/AM channels on the other modes so that it would go from AM straight to FM and back, seems a bit of a weird interface.

What about voice control: "Radio, tune band AM". Eyes stay on the road and it's one-touch.

Hmm, it is one touch, but the voice recognition is hit and miss! One click on most car interfaces to go between AM and FM is much faster, can't believe Jaguar have missed this one (or used software that doesn't navigate easily).

If only it was as simple as that.

Right now to switch from AM to FM, via the steering wheel Mode button I have to cycle 3 channels.

I.e hit Mode to go from AM1 to AM2, AM2 to AM3, then AM3 to FM1 and vice versa

What makes it worse (and kind of dangerous) is that its not just a "click or keystroke" on Mode, you have to HOLD and press the button for it to register each cycle, if you need to turn a corner whilst doing this its dangerous and its also time consuming, it can take 10-15 seconds holding Mode down 3 times in a row to finally get to FM and vice versa.

Hmmm. Your first post seemed to be a genuine request for assistance, but all you've done since is dismiss the recommendations to use either voice control or the NAV screen and continue to criticize the inefficiency of the steering column control. There's a simple solution to your problem: quit using the steering column controls to change radio bands!

I have to agree with polarisnavyxj, this whole discussion is now just a waste of bandwith.

Wow the ignorance.

I have said the recommendations aren't really a solution as whilst driving looking down at the screen takes your eyes off the road and the point of a steering wheel button is to make things more safer and easier - which it doesn't.

It looks like there isn't a solution do to this safely, its just a poor design/interface from Jaguar.
