Thanks, Chris. I really appreciate your offer, but I no longer live in the DC Metro area. I updated my profile once to show that we moved to Miami Beach, but I need to do so again because we moved last year to Savannah, GA. The car I will be purchasing (pending the outcome of the PPI), is located at a Toyota dealer about 35 miles away near Hilton Head, SC.

Thanks again for the offer.

I got the results of the PPI late this afternoon and it was not good news.

Interestingly, the service advisor started out by telling me that the tires were fine, but might need to be replaced in a year or so;, the brakes were good, and there were no leaks. Then came the kicker: the supercharger is bad and needs to be replaced. Total cost: $7,017.14 + $502.21 sales tax!

Talk about burying the lede, lol.

I obviously got my deposit back on the car.

Alas, the search for my dream F-Type continues....

Stay tuned.

Madman, I take it the dealership with the F-Type was not willing to negotiate. Granted, I am sure they would not be willing to take say $5K off of the price for they know someone is going to come in and buy the car as is. Hopefully you asked the question just to see what they would say. All you can do is keep looking, set your standards and see what you find. What you want is out there. It is a matter of finding it and being at the right place at the right time.

I think he is blowing smoke?
The SC might be making noise from a bad snout but we have had almost zero SC failures. They do happen but Jaguar used the Eaton TVS blower because it is very common on many different brands of cars with good results. Still I think your wise to walk away from this one. Especially after the service advisors wonky statements!

Since your looking at older cars can you DIY the repairs? It is a used car and will require some repair and maintenance as time goes on.

I didn't ask and he didn't offer. He said that they would just wholesale it. And frankly, I wasn't interested in it even at a substantially discounted price. As you said, I'm sure "my" F-Type is out there somewhere; I just have to keep looking. My wife and I are leaving the country on Friday for a few weeks, so I'll start looking again next month when we return.

Unfortunately, I'm not handy at all. I used to joke that my toolbox was the yellow pages and my checkbook. (In the Dark Ages back before the Internet and when people still wrote checks, lol.)

Well hopefully since you already have a Maserati you have a good local mechanic?
That can remove a lot worry about owning an XJ.
