I just happened to see a technical press kit about the 2018 XJ's and it mentioned that they have 4G connectivity. Is it possible to get a telematics module from a 2018 XJ and swap it into a 2017?

 

The telematics module controls your InControl Touch Pro online account and your vehicle tracking etc. You won't just be able to swap one over. This first thing that you'll notice is your car won't start as it is part of the immobiliser system.

 

At my last service, I asked the dealer what Jaguar are doing about the end of 3G AT&T service which is coming very soon (Feb 2022). I was told that the "technical team" has been working on a retrofit for 2 years with no solution yet in sight. My home alarm also ran on 3G, but Honeywell was able to swap out the connectivity module for a 4g module for about $120. I suspect the Jag charge will be a little higher if they do come up with something.

Will this render any XJ with 3G builtin telematics useless and unable to use Incontrol Remote tools?

 

That is my current understanding, yes. Assuming the system is linked to a Wi-Fi hotspot such as on your home network, it may still work "back at base", but that is of limited usefulness so far as I can see..
