Default Where is the Low Coolant Sensor 2014 XJ Supercharged 5.0?

Got my car back from the shop that worked on the A/C two weeks ago. I now keep getting a Low Coolant Warning, but the Coolant Tank indicates coolant between the marks. Any thoughts on where to look?

  • The coolant level sensor is located in the coolant reservoir tank (on the engine side of the tank at the bottom) Sensor is a float type and some times it gets stuck and does not float! You can remove the reservoir tank, and after taking the coolant out you can remove any evident debris and wash the tank with clean water etc. You may get the the float to work or not---then you need a replacement tank.

Or it could be as simple as the connection to the sensor wasn't re-connected when the tank was reinstalled after the AC work.
The connector is on the bottom of the coolant tank, and I know when I have to re-install it, the hardest part can be getting that connector on because the harness doesn't have a lot of extra length to work with.

Mike, the other thing to keep in mind is if you tend to top up the tank with plain water vice a 50/50 mix of coolant/water, you can thin down the mix in your coolant system enough that the float will not float, even though evertyhing is working perfectly. Jaguar got smart with this sensor and it needs the higher density of the coolant to make the float float in the coolant. So, like when you are flushing the coolant system and you fill up the system with straight water, you will find that you will have a low coolant level, even thought the tank is full.
