Default Why is my key so darn big

i took my 2011 xjl sc in for the roof recall and was loaned a 2012 xf. i was stunned to walk up to it and have the door open the same as my xjl, but with a key that is literally 1/3 the size of the one i have. i asked my dealer if i could buy and xf key and program it for my xj, but was quickly shot down. am i the only person who hates the huge key. when i wear cargo shorts it literally makes my pants slip down on that side if in my pockets. any thoughts?

Don't the 2012s come with a smaller key design? See page 8 of the owner's handbook here for a pic of the 2 designs

http://www.jaguar.com/content/global...1_12my_NAS.pdf

The 2011s come with the design on the left and I thought the 2012s came with the design on the right.

It's because the British are still using vacuum tubes in their circuits. They haven't discovered the transistor yet LMAO

My 2011 and 2012 both have been the larger key design(on the left).

I got a USB stick from Jaguar in the other design...hehe

He he, but you dont have the emergency key!
If batterie drops down you have to go home and get the spare key!
If you are far away you have a serious problem!

i have gotten used to it and quite frankly have begun to enjoy it.

you cannot use a xf piece of crap plastic fob. theyre programmed differantly. AND loose a XF fob and have another key fob programmed and then later FIND the missing 1, you can throw it in the trash. once programming is done and missing keys are deleted. they can never be recovered, theyre junk.
Do the same with the XJ key and that key can be recovered and reused which meens you dont have a very expensive paperweight of about $500...for the same mistake

Yeah, I feel like in the movie The Dictator, I'm carrying a small brick. The key fob to my wifes 2012 CLS550 is MUCH more convenient.

Some say heavy key = Expensive feels. Well my suggestion is you can always buy the key case to prevent losing it.

Example: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTQ2MlgxNT...TXKPQ/$_57.JPG

Just put it in your belt!

Or tie a string to it and batter your opponent from a distance.

The keyfob always reminds me of the old joke "Is that your Jag key in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" It's rather annoying because I also keep my wallet in the same pocket (cell phone is on the opposite side, so that's out, too). I've considered doing a scan of the keyfob and making a simple belt clip on a 3D printer. Right now I have a small carabiner attached to it and clip it on my belt loop so it doesn't fall to the bottom of the pocket.

Here in the USA the key changed a month or so after the 2013 production began in August of 2012. My car was delivered towards the end of October with the large key, but Jaguar issued a service bulletin to switch out the key fortunately for me they let me keep both old and new. I use the new smaller key and if the wife needs the car (which is infrequently) I let her use the older larger key. Here are a couple of photos of both to compare them. BTW Land Rover uses the smaller key.
