Default Worn OME Pirelli tires at 21,500 miles.

I have a 3 year lease a 2017 Jaguar F Pace "S" model with 22 inch Pirelli tires. At 21,500 miles they are worn down to below .40 tread wear. Here is the kicker, I ran snow tires for 5 months out of 26 months. I feel the Pirelli tires have failed the factory expectation of at least 30, 000 miles on these tires. I realize they ride softer giving a nice smooth ride, however who leases a car and has to purchase all new tires before the 3 year lease is up? I'll be arguing with the service manager tomorrow - who plans to take "measurements" and hopefully call Pirelli for a pro-rated settlement.

similar incident happened with me 4 years ago. I had Michelin a/s 2 for my 09 XF SC they were amazing tires. Long story short Houston roads caused both passenger side tires to pop. Decided to replace all 4 with Pirelli P Zero. It’s a summer tire that came from factory on my car. After 12,000 miles the front tires were worn down to the steel bands and the rear were almost there. Ever since then I have decided to never buy Pirelli again more money less longevity. Switched back to the Michelin A/S 3+ have not regretted, they are amazing tires. And on my XJ I have Continental DWS 06, which are amazing as well but they are much stiffer/harsh than the Michelin’s. Overall IMO the Pirelli’s available to “normal” people are trash

Same on the F-Type forum.
The OEM fitment to 95% of all F-Types is Pirelli P-Zero and 95% of owners on this forum hate them - crap grip, crap wear and noisy.

While this is the XJ X351 forum, Michelin is my tire of choice. I currently am on Pilot Sport 4s. They ride better, handle great, and I am getting great mileage out of them. I just replaced the fronts that had another 3k left on them at 26k my rears had to be replaced at 18k due to extreme puncture damage.

I'm a bit surprised that Pirelli offers a tread wear warranty to make a claim against.

Of course Pirelli offers many different designs but typically/historically they have the lowest tread life ratings among all their peers. Long (or even reasonable) tread life has apparently never been a prime concern for Pirelli.

Cheers

Then there’s the chronic balance and flat spotting issues I’ve had with Pirelli.

1 - You're on the XJ forum, NOT the F-Pace forum. Have you considered asking F-Pace owners & lessees for their tire wear experiences?
2 - Did you have your tires rotated and pressures checked/maintained? (other than relying on TPMS)
3 - High-performance tires on high-performance vehicles wear quicker than other vehicles and tires.
4 - The way you drive effects the wear of tires. While certain cultures often claim discrimination at the drop of the hat for their own personal gain, physics do not discriminate, although I have seen & heard those from certain cultures try to claim such, for their own personal gain. It is what it is. Don't buy that tire again. Performance tires wear faster than any of us like. The more aggressive you drive, the more tires show it - tires don't lie.
4 - Michelin make better tires that I've had experience with, although I can't speak for the F-Pace fitments.

Good luck - it's nice that the service manager will try to help with a prorated discount.

What does .40 tread mean? 0.4 of an inch? They never had that much to start with. 40%? 0.4mm?

"however who leases a car and has to purchase all new tires before the 3 year lease is up?" Just about anyone leasing a heavy, high performance car with sporting tires. As they typically expect at least 1/3 of the tread left on return, that means you need at least 45,000 tire life for 30K lease. A tall order for grippy sporting tires. The good news is that most leases simply state a minimum tread depth, and the correct speed rating, but not a particular brand. Go and get the cheapest tires you can that meet the requirement.
