Left side of my 2010 XJ's heated windscreen has stopped working, right side is perfect. The fuse (F32) for the left side has been checked and is fine. I read several XF posts suggesting the cause to be a connector found just inside the engine bay below the windscreen pillar, which corrodes and causes complete or partial failure of the heated windscreen, but no information on the XJ specifically and I cannot locate a similar connector in my XJ – although the wiring diagram shows there is one somewhere.
Anyone got any suggestions or had a similar issue with an XJ? The windscreen itself is 14 months old and thus the heating element is unlikely to be faulty. Any help appreciated!
To test if it is a fault downstream from the windscreen you can just pop off the LH A pillar trim and check for voltage between the two connections on to the screen when the heaters should be on. The plastic cover near the top clips off to reveal a single Torx screw, and then it just pops off two clips and pulls upwards. I've had the LH side on my grey XJ fail due to an unlucky stone chip just above the VIN window.
The LH heater a 2010 X351 is connected:
- B+, A pillar to windscreen ribbon connector, C9RD03A, the lower connection
- GND, A pillar to the windscreen ribbon connector, C9RD03B, the upper connection
- C31-D/1, 24-way grey connector, LH lower A pillar
- C1BB01D/4, 4 way black engine harness to engine fuse box.
- Fuse 32 in the engine fuse box, 40A, and relay R3. R13 is for the RH side. I'm unsure if they are serviceable or PCB mounted.
