Hello jag enthusiasts! I know such questions were asked a lot but i wanna get more details on what im looking at specifically. So I'm currently looking for a jaguar xj 2014 or 2015 (or even a good deal on a 2016!) model years, 3.0L sc petrol preferably. I live in the UAE, DUBAI, weather gets pretty hot in summers. I'm looking at ones with full service history from the local dealer, and i am going to do full inspection for sure.
So my questions are:
1. what are specific things that i must ask for to get inspected?
2. Is 90k miles a lot on these cars?
3. The weather here gets really hot in summers, how could heat have affected the car over the course of its lifetime?
4. I am going to have the car as my daily driver, not long distances, mainly 20 minutes drive with a bit of traffic everyday back and forth to work. Will i be satisfied and have a reliable ride? Or i better look at something else?
5. What improvements has been made between the 2014 and 2015 model years?
6. Has anyone experienced the 2.0L 4 cyl petrol? There are lots of them here, i know they're rare in most countries
Im so in love with the xj, i looked at and drove other nice luxury cars, like a mercedes cls and audi a7, but i keep on coming back and drooling over the jag, especially the one that i drove with the stratus grey metallic color and grey 19" 10 double spoke wheels (pictures attached) 🥵
All opinions regarding any aspect will be really appreciated ✌🏻
Suggest you use the search box in the upper right corner of this page. 5.0L Jaguars have had waterpump issues. Another thing to be aware of since you're in Dubai is that most of the coolant pipes (if not all) are built out plastic; so paying particular attention to their condition and age is important. Good luck and hunting.
Things to ask about before you buy regardless whether 5L or 3L: 1. Water pump and plastic cooling system parts - when last replaced (Pump goes bad 30K to 50K miles on avg.) 2. All the buttons get sticky especially in hot climates - have they been replaced or be prepared to do the "desticky" process yourself. 3. The auto stop/start is a nuisance and a safety hazard in my opinion and must be disabled every time you start the car but it can be permanently disabled - has this been done or is it just not functioning? Finding the replacement for the auxiliary stop/start battery has been a challenge for some members. Many of us are pleased when the small battery goes bad & the stop/start quits functioning. 2016 does not use the aux battery. 4. The year model 2014 and I believe 2015 do not have separate DRLs (daytime running lights) and the headlights serve this function. If your country requires them, that automatic turn on feature must be enabled. 5. Tires - The OEM tires are Pirellis but if you read the forum you will see that many feel the car rides, performs, & tires last longer with other brands. Regardless, make sure the factory specified sizes are installed on the correct wheels. Front and rear are not the same. These are my immediate thoughts. Others please correct me or add. Good Luck.
The 4 Cyl petrol are the most reliable engine you can have on x351.
i have experience from same engine used by another manufacturer vehicle. (It´s not JLR made)
In fact, same engine have been used many brands by different tune. From 163hp up to +300hp sports car usage.
The big thing is can you DIY any of the repairs?
If not plan to spend multi-thousand dollars at the Jaguar dealer.
This forum has all the problems and solutions figured out and without the forum I would be lost!
Many great threads if you search.

I can't really diy stuff, especially mechanical maintenance, but anyway i found several garages that are experts in jlr for reasonable prices.
Thank you!

1. I am willing to ask for full service history from the dealer, if it wasn't found in the car in the first place.
2. Surprisingly all xjs that i found didn't have sticky buttons at all! Despise the hot weather
3. I agree that the auto start stop is bad, i might simply try to disable it.
4. Apparently the drl in models pre-2016 are not enabled in all gulf countries, might make them work, or i will try to find a 2016+ model
5. The yearly inspections done by the government on all cars, focus a lot on tire sizes and compatibility since it's crucial for safety especially that tires get really abused on hot pavement, so im not worried much about that.

Yes! Many people told me that, it's just a bit discouraging because of the lower power versus the 340hp of the 3.0 petrols
Replying to a couple items for which you should know the solution: I have a 2014 XJ and the buttons are starting to get sticky. Inevitably, they will. The arduous process to clean off the sticky surface is to wipe the buttons with Neutrogena face cleaning wipes. The Stop/Start is easily disabled by disconnecting the negative to chassis ground cable from the small auxiliary battery in the trunk.
So i found a grey 2016 xjl 3.0 sc with 50k miles only, but it's missing the meridian stereo and interior ambient lights, no sticky buttons whatsoever lol. Im really torn if i should take the nicer looking 2016 and give up some options or buy a fully loaded 2014 with slightly more miles and that is cheaper. The 2016 is selling for 19k $ while the 2014 for 16k $, what do you guys think? Both have the 3.0sc
Go for the low mileage. The maintenance costs with age add up. If you frequently carry working passengers the tray tables are nice, but just about everything else is bling. Check all of door handles and soft close performance. I have had to replace the mechanisms in two doors. Insist on a new battery. I bought a 2016 3.0 SC XJL AWD with 35k for $35k, so your deal sounds amazing. I am up to 37k after two years.

So i went and checked out the 2016 car today, it's really beautiful and in mint condition, i couldn't spot a single asthetic flaw. It's not fully loaded though, no ventilated seats, nor ambient lights, nor a meridian sound system. But honestly I'm thinking if those extras matter when the car is in such a good condition and for for a good price. Or no?
