Default XJR Trans

Very concerned. 2016 Jaguar XJR. About one month ago I noticed that when I got on it, I got a trans fault and Eco off and one other thing I can’t remember.
Turn the vehicle off wait 30 seconds and then everything starts working correct. And then sometimes I’ll be driving and it just won’t shift into second gear. I’m hoping it’s not a transmission. Someone in my other post said to change the transmission fluid. Thank you. I have made an appointment. But they have also said that if you wait too long on the transmission fluid, then it’s better not to change it. not sure what to do. The vehicle has 102,000 miles on it. Not sure if the transmission fluid was changed before I purchased it at 50,000 miles. Any thoughts? What do you think it is?

Yes change the fluid and report back. You could VERY easily have a low fluid condition and you would never even know it.
I would NOT delay in getting this changed! Make sure the proper fluid is used and also that the shop has done this before and your NOT their guinea pig!

You will get much better answers with complete information? What was the code?
Now this might sound stupid but how old is your battery?

Correct,Then is better to change the whole transmission. The transmission oil will lose its ability to hold pressure and lubricate by heat, moisture, oxygen and will collect small particles from friction plates. Not only fluid is need to be changed but also the filter. If filter lose its ability to hold particles, the particles will accumulate to the solenoids and valves making them stuck.(resulting sympthons you have)
The reason why some people swear that oil change broke their tranny have 2 reason: 1) They used incorrect oil: Friction plates either clued together or deteriorated because wrong oil, 2) Tranny was already failing because of oil have not been changed in time and when finally changed as a last resort, new oils don´t do miracles and fix something. Tranny was going out anyway, because old oil have been turned to the coarse fluid with huge amount of particles running thru bearings causing pressure lost.
According your writings i would take the valvetable open and change the solenoiids for it. Sounds like some valves or solenoids are sticking. If you aren't able to do it yourself, the tranny is made by ZF and they have service centers almost everywhere. Check ZF website or visit an independent garage who do transmission services. (same tranny is used in many vehicles, BMW, Audi, Alfa, Bentley, Aston, GM, ...list is huge)

Will check battery age. Did not think about that.

That is pure bullshit.

It probably wasn't. General rule of thumb is a tranny gets new fluid and a filter every 60k. Get it changed, use ZF brand fluid and an OEM filter/pan, and don't worry about it for another 60k.
