I have a 1996 XJ Sport. New battery and radio code supplied with car does not work. I am told that i should press pty >> a.mem. Only problem is that i do not have a pty button on the radio. Any ideas please. I miss my music.
1996 XJ Sport would be a X300 model that has more traffic for more input , even though the X305 is the same chassis and radio it is the V - 12 version
Does the radio have the original Jaguar label on the face ?
This is a Alpine manufactured AJ9500A model # for 1994.5 - 97 , A same looking AJ9500R was used later years in the V - 8
There are a couple of fuses for the radio system and once in me installing battery in backwards it blew one on these radio fuses , battery positive post goes car fwd , mark with tape and big arrow
The USA models in this X300 model year group as original stereo from my understanding should not need a stereo security code to reset the stereo
You are also fortunate to not have chip in ignition key ( engine starting immobilzation ) as well in USA for this group
I finally replaced the factory head unit about 3 years ago and am very happy with it. Looks nice too. Matching color palettes, bluetooth, aux input, CD player, remote. It even replaces the broken clock! A big win.
No codes needed for USA factory radios, but by now most of the survivors have died. Like the dinosaurs they were.
There is some traffic in the X300 area on the details to installing the aftermarket stereo heads
Do you currently have a in the trunk power amplifier and a CD changer in the trunk' ?
The same Jaguar / Alpine AL9500A stereo head will run the standard Jaguar factory wiring where the speaker wires come from the head as in the pic above . Or the factory premium option where the speaker wires come from the trunk located power amplifier ( so may be a matter of having to run new speaker wires )
To make a trunk amplifier work there is an 8 pin DIN cable that runs under the center consol
In some cases this cable is already there to use otherwise not ( extra ) used in the standard setup
To know if you have this tan colored round 8 din cable already installed it will run under the center console ashtray along with a black round antenna cable , no stereo head removal needed to get into that area behind it
