Silicon or rubber hoses?
https://www.ebay.com/i/142380592581
I just saw this set on ebay, seems like good value but not sure of quality (or the alternative colors, I'll be going with black if I buy). Does anyone have any thoughts on the benefits or weaknesses of using silicon? It's supposed to be better for high heat and be more heat resistant.
I've just had a pinhole leak in the elbow of the right angled line that runs to below the passenger side intake manifold, bought a 17 buck napa hose to replace when it cools off but need to do all my hoses asap. I'm also use to running water wetter in 4.2 S6 engines is this a good idea in the 6.0 also?
Cheers

Depends on how you value your V12
The X300 series does not have a overheat warning until it's too late
It seems there are alot of V12 overheat totals
There are some more reputable manufacturers other then some Ebay seller

Exactly right, but wondering about quality of silicon over rubber and reputable vendors, getting a bit tired of paying middle man top dollar for hoses and other ancillaries that turn out to be from China anyway...
Oliver,
I'm not sure about silicone. I have a set on an '85 V12, and when hot they seem soft enough to close up under vacuum.
The old Jag vac hoses had threads through the hose to prevent this.

In the non-Jaguar world there are a lot of guys running silicone hoses. But, the good brands-vs-junk brands are more easily identified simply because so many people are using them and reporting on the quality. With Jaguars, not so much.
I bought one set for my Mustang, ages ago. It was de rigueur at the time. They were junk. I went back to known-quality rubber hoses and called it good. Frankly, I suggest you do the same. I'm not convinced that even high-quality silicone hoses offer any meaningful, real-world advantage for most owners
Cheers

Thanks all - hadn't thought through the lack of structure and wire spirals on the main hoses. I've actually never used silicon and know some truckers use them, but I think your points are well taken, the engine needs robust rubber hoses. I've got a rubber 1/2 inch napa 10021 I'm about to put on the car and the walls are thick, so I'll get a set of good quality rubber hoses ordered. Cheers

The fad for silicone hoses began ages ago. Caprices, Crown Vics, Mustangs, Camaros, etc could be ordered with 'police packages' which often included silicone hoses...and a host of other high-grade, heavy-duty parts. It became popular to order the silicone hoses from the dealer and use 'em on your own Mustang or whatever. But....they were high-grade and very expensive. So, the aftermarket jumped in, offering silicone hoses at a lower price and, often as not, lower quality level compared to the OEM police-grade stuff.
I'm sure the truckers use only industrial grade, high-quality stuff on their big Macs and Peterbilts.

Racing friend told me only use the high quality race car grade hoses, avoid the pretty color engine bay dress up junk. I'll stick with rubber though

The brick and mortar shops fabricate custom shapes and colors
Gloss White to me would be a preference
Wondered if giving the base hose of the high grade rubber material to begin with and they do their thing of " coating " it from there
The inline 6 has a very complex shape octopus hose that has some visually exposed upper sections that would only need to be dresses
