Having driven 2000 miles or so now on my new to me XJ12, I have my first issue that needs proper attention. Started raining heavily the other day, went to turn on the wipers and nothing, not a single thing in any postion and pump also not activating to squirt water on the screen. Fortnately was just a few miles from home and the shower passed.
Then set about reading locations for fuses and relays. Checked those out, all fuses intact and swapped relays around with no change.Pulled the car out to give it a wash and suddenly wipers working again. Very odd. Put the car back, wipers not working. I then left the wipers in the on position for a short drive to see whether they might spontaneously come back to life again. When turning the wheel nearly full lock, they started working, then stopped when straightening up. Adjusted the steering column out slightly and they now work all the time. Obviously, I'd rather solve the root cause but I've no idea what the cause of this issue might be. For now I've turned the column off 'auto' and kept it in the golden position.
Would love to hear your thought. My first thought was some wire has become compromised within the steering column but looking at the assembly on ebay, it all looks quite self contained.
