Hi Everyone:

I am getting the above-mentioned OBD2 codes -- all relate to the O2 sensors, I believe -- both banks, upstream and downstream.

Any thoughts as to likely cause(s)? It seems unlikely to me that all 4 would fail at one time for independent reasons, so possible explanations and/or things to check would be most appreciated.

Any recommendations on which to look at first?

Fuses, Relays? wiring?

or start out by replacing all 4 sensors?

Handbook should list fuses, relays etc else grab JTIS. May well be wiring/connector. Else change sensors but if both went bad at once it just can't be the sensors.

 

Checked fuse 33 and 34 in the engine compartment fuse box, both are good

R12 in the engine compartment fuse box says its not user serviceable.

I guess next step is just to start replacing o2 sensors.

 

Any update on your problem? I have the same issue, is your engine burning oil?

 

The first thing that comes to mind is a vacuum leak. I can't imagine all the sensors going bad at once. I'm going to hook the smoke machine up tomorrow.

 

Jag scanner also pulled up a fuel pressure code, another thing to look in to

 

My dealership replaced all 4 sensors, then there was 'still a problem.' I believe they found a short in the wiring.

 

Havent troubleshooted it yet,

Not burning oil, that I know of, but I'll look into it.

however I can tell you that I have gone into limp back mode one time since all faults where there. Other than the one time, no other major issue.

I need to get the jag lifted, so that I can swap out all 4 o2 sensors.

Thank you for the update, do you have any idea what part of the loom is the trouble spot. I'll start checking my harness. In the past I had an intermittent issue with a right bank o2 sensor so this is starting to make sense.

 

Smoke machine showed no vacuum leaks. I didn't find any obvious issues with a quick visual inspection of the wire harness. Before testing wires I'm going to change the fuel filter and check fuel pressure.

 

At the moment all o2 sensors are functioning normal. Fuel pressure is between 53-55psi, AllData shows the pressure should be between 58-72.5psi. Maybe dealing with a failing pump? Tomorrow I'll test the pressure on my other Jag and go from there.

 

From the fuel pressure posts I've read it seems like my fuel pressure range is the norm, so in other words Alldatadiy.com can't be trusted. I reset the codes and put some miles on the car waiting for some fresh codes, so far all the monitors are set so no issues. At the moment with no clear problem I'm at a stand still, maybe bad gas set the code? Let me know if you guys come up with some better info.

 

Fresh codes: P0037, P1582, P0057, P1647, P1646

 

ordered 2 upstream O2 sensors

 

All O2 sensors are good, CEL comes on quicker now, time to start hunting down this wiring problem, any suggestions on approximate problem area in the loom would be much appreciated.

 

any one know the grounding point location for the 2 upstream O2 sensors? I just show E140 & E142 on the grounding discription.

 

Installed this ecm in to my other Jag, sdd failed to recode this ecm to the new car, ECM doesn't show any water contamination.

 

Did a good cleaning on 7 grounding points on the front end, reflashed the ecm. Back to hunting down the short or bad ecm.
