2003 X350 clock.
Hi, illumination on my X350 clock does not work, ordered a new bulb (LED) and fitted it still did not work. Tested new bulb and it worked, tested old bulb and it didn't.
Clock keeps perfect time and I tried the bulb in both orientations. Could there be any reason why there should be no power to just the light?
TIA. Peter.

Not knowing if the LED bulb you are using is polarized (+ and - must be oriented correctly) or non-polarized ("should" work independent of how it's plugged in)......
I have encountered issues on non-polarized versions of LED, as they have a parasitic current draw that the FET drivers the Jag uses does not like. You may want to try another non-polarized type LED. If you do go polarized, then be aware you can insert bulb holder into the fitting on back 180 degrees "out"; try rotating the bulb holder 180 then re-insert and test. I have polarized green LED in mine and it works fine (vastly better then filament lamp).
Also, note that the copper traces that provide connection are fairly delicate, and you can damage them, but since your replacement filament bulb worked, that's unlikely. Just make sure you verify copper tangs on bulb holder align to copper traces on mounting PCB, and try rotate 180 degrees. And again, polarized works best.

What I want in that easy to see SPACE is 'real' oil pressure and 'real' coolant temp
..from sensors that are located to give better and EARLIER warning......... that the Dr. Kevorkian-designed suicidal cooling system is going to attempt to destroy the engine. Yet Again. Stealthily.
Before any useful warning can prevent it.
Just because it CAN.

The LOCATION and space the clock occupies COULD be utilized for a more valuable display - one that can keep us aware of situations that ARE 'critical'.
Or perhaps several such parameters, same display head?
Water temp (for-real, not faked as the OEM is) and Voltage are actually a common combination:

They have competition. Plenty of it.
Colour? Cheap tech everywhere nowadays, not hard to make it whatever you want it to be. Selectable on-the-fly, even.
