Default 2004 XJR on Craig's list Raleigh

Aug 14 - 2004 Jaguar XJR Sedan Supercharged - $14900 (Wilson NC) cars & trucks - by owner img
This XJR has come up on the Raleigh NC Craig's list. I don,t seem to be able to post the listing properly. Any thoughts from anyone? I think this car is worth prob $9000 to $10000. I am looking for a play XJR not a daily driver (see my other posts)

It all depends on miles and condition, but I think your numbers are a bit low. I wouldn't touch a 9k XJR unless I was prepared to drop 2-3k into it pretty much right away to get it right. I took a look at that car. Wholesale trade in on that car right now is in the 10,500-11,000 range, if it doesn't have any significant issues. If you find a good car with an owner willing to give it away for that, you just won the lottery. If he has documented proof of the s/c rebuild, the tires, (those are upgraded 20" wheels) the brakes etc, and it's a clean car with no accidents or paintwork, it's prob worth around 11,500-12k. Consider the smaller sc pulley and mina exhaust bonuses.

The stuff that ISN'T mentioned yet...

The big XJR issues - air suspension. The bags will fail, consider them wear items 80k miles seems to be the average life. If the previous owner has driven around with a slightly leaky airbag for a while, the air suspension compressor will fail too. Bags are around $1300 a piece from Jag, or rebuilt from arnott for $400 after the core charge.

Power steering rack leaks - this is hit or miss, but I've seen it in enough of them that it should be considered an issue. They leak from the rack seals. Jaguar only sells the entire rack, $1800, reman units are available in the 6-800 range depending on the source and how good your pricing structure is. Book time is 5.5 hours on a steering rack, so even at an independent, it's probably a 1k repair at best using a reman rack. Also, the car needs an allignment after the rack replacement.

Plastic cooling system parts - The plastic coolant recovery tanks all fail due to the valeo plastic that doesn't do well with heat cycling. It's another "wear" item. Most of them start with a slow leak at the nipple to the return line. Eventually it breaks off, leaving you stranded. Sometimes in spectacular fashion. Tanks are $150 or so - plus $40 for coolant.

Take care,

George

Thanks George, if this car had 90-100K on it I would prob be all over it, but 125k that even makes me nervous. I will be keeping an eye on this one while I continue my search, I did think they my numbers where a bit low (think I may be getting a bit jaded with my search) KBB list the car at between $10-$11K. Also the car does not seem to be registered in NC. With my budget of$13500 I would have money to play with for issues.
