Went to my dealer thinking I needed a new key fob but when they went to program it, they determined it wasn't the fob but needed a new door module for $850. I found them on Ebay for $50 but I'm not sure where the drivers door module is located on the car. My key fob works intermittently, unlocks the car, won't roll down windows or open sunroof and once you unlock the car won't work again for 20 minutes.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Before you rush to spend money, gave you got another key fob, and does that do the same thing ? Failure of the module is rare, failures of key fobs are more common.

 

yes, I the dealer was programing the new key fob when they discovered it did the same thing as the old key fob. The dealer said I need a new Drivers door module, so I told them I'd pass on the new key fob... I figure for $50 on Ebay for a used Driver Door Module I'd give it a try. I just was wondering where it's located on the car before I start pulling panels just looking for it.

 

The Driver Door Module is in........the driver's door !! My copy of the technical notes also tells me it controls or provides an interface for : -

- RF Decoder for the remote
- Power windows
- Driver door mirror
- Other exterior mirror movement
- Door locks
- Easy entry/exit
- Horn chirp.

 

Don't forget you have to program it too. Got SDD?

You can't just put in a new Drivers Door Module, it needs to be programmed to the car, and this requires the dealer level diagnostic system.

It's had a few different names over the years.

WDS - Worldwide Diagostic System
IDS - Integrated Diagnostic System
SDD - Symptom Driven Diagnostics

Note that WDS and IDS was also the name for the Ford, Mazda & Aston Martin diagnostics for a time. You need to have the Jaguar &/or Land Rover system.

I am not sure if the Autoenguinuity system can also repogram a DDM.

Basically if you don't have that equipment, you need to find someone who does.

Your dealer may or may not want to do the reprogramming if you provide a used DDM, you'd have to talk with them about it.
