Default 2005 Jaguar XJ8L Windscreen Washer Problem

Hmmmmm..........I'm getting plenty of washer fluid from the driver's side washer jet, but not much at all from the passenger side. If I disconnect the hose under the hood leading to the passenger washer jet, and shoot a quick spray of WD40 through the hose, there is certainly no restriction to the washer jet. What I do notice is that there is always a puddle on the ground afterwards at the driver's side. Is it going to be a nightmare to check out/access the T fitting under the cowling? Thanks.

If you undo the "plugs" at the leading edge of the cowling it can be levered up a few inches so that you can see underneath.

Also if you remove the covers over the cabin filter and the brake fluid reservoir
you can feel the tubing and connectors under the edge of the cowl.

Wow. There's hardly any room underneath that cowling to do or see anything much at all (short of removing the windshield wipers). In fact, I had to struggle a bit just to get the 'T' somewhat out in the open for inspection. As far as I could reasonably tell, the 'T' was intact. Still, the wash favors the driver's side rather than the passenger side. As far as the puddle on the ground was concerned, I think that it might have formed because the driver's side jet was overshooting the windshield a bit. Hmmmmm.............I suppose that fluid could still be leaking at the union to the passenger side windshield wiper hose, but that's another day.

There are four holes (jets) in the plastic fitting on each arm.

You may want to try this:

Remove arm from vehicle and remove plastic jet fitting from wiper arm.

Remove pipe from jet fitting and hold pipe against hole in jet.

Ask your wife (or mistress!) to operate the washer pump.

Repeat with other holes.

ie backflush each jet with water under pressure.

Keep hands away from moving wipers.

Well, from what I could ascertain (without removing the wipers), there is likely a leak under the base fitting where the passenger windshield washer hose plugs into, and which would also plug into the passenger side hose leading from the 'T' fitting. Before I remove the wipers to gain access to the base fitting, I probably would want a spare base fitting to replace the old one (if needed). Anyone know where I could obtain one? Anyone else have trouble with either of those base fittings leaking/fracturing? I suppose that I could just go for broke, and hope that the hose leading from the 'T' fitting is simply split at the base fitting. Thanks.

Have a look at this eBay item number:311358738604
You can probably get one at a Napa store.

Getting the wipers off my XJR was a real PITA and afterwards I discovered I did not need to!

In the pics you can see how much you can lever the shield up and I did not take out all the grommets which you will need to do.

Well, I took another look at the washer problem today. On the surface at least, this appears more of a design deficiency than anything else. The passenger side wiper is 6" longer than the driver's side wiper so naturally the washer fluid is going to reach the driver's side washer jet first, and well before the fluid ever reaches the passenger side washer jet. It's no small wonder then why the driver's side receives most of the washer fluid as opposed to the passenger side.

Hmmmm.....It seems that after I disconnect the windshield washer hose from the driver's side washer port (which is mounted on the cowl), a modest flow of washer fluid will leak out from the hose. Yet after I disconnect the windshield washer hose from the passenger side washer port (which is likewise mounted on the cowl), there is no flow of washer fluid leaking out of the hose. Do each of those ports contain some kind of check valve so as to insure that there is always some washer fluid retained in the hose before the washers are activated? Could that be the problem here?

Fixed! Interchanged washer jets between the driver's and passenger side. The passenger side washer jet's orfices must have been manufactured a tad too small. Though the driver's side now has the defective washer jet, the passenger side jet is tossing enough washer fluid over to the driver's side to make up for the deficiency. Thanks everybody for your help! Greatly appreciated!
