I'm getting code P0327 on my 05 XJ8 which is the "Restricted Performance" knock sensor bank 1.
I have searched for the location for the x350 but cannot find any information to its location (bank 1) and how to remove it. I can only find the location for the X308.
Any help will be much appreciated. Also, any recommendations for possible other issues that will throw the code. Someone has said old fuel could be the issue????
Any education appreciated, but really need the location & how to remove it.
Richard,
The knock sensors (two of 'em) are in the engine valley; "bank 1" being the RH sensor.
Believe replacement requires an intake manifold pull. (Just be glad your car is not the supercharged version).
Suggest first having car scanned with a non generic scanner (to make sure fault code is correct and specific). Also, check knock sensor pigtail connectors, etc
(Do a forum search if you want to see pics of the little devils)
Hope this helps...
Richard,
- Mine is an '07 XJR (SC engine)
- The '07 SC pigtails meet a four pin grey connector in front of LH cyl head
- As mentioned earlier, look for connector corrosion, damage; ditto in adjacent harness
- Suggest use the x350 shop manual in forum stickies
Richard,
I have an '05, VDP so the same engine as yours, and I had the same problem. The bad news is that the engine wizards at the factory designed the intake manifold to cover the knock sensors, thus requiring taking the intake manifold off to do a proper fix.The good news is that there is an easy temporary fix. The bank 1 sensor has its cable routed around the front of the manifold with its connector stacked above the bank 2 knock sensor connector both tied to a vertical piece of sheet metal located towards the front of bank 2. Take a new knock sensor and plug it into the harness at this point, routing the cable back to bank one. Secure it anywhere just to avoid having it flop around. All will be well in computer world, no codes, no check engine light. My car ran perfectly with no knocking or other issues. When you go to replace your valley hose it will just take a few minutes to properly mount the knock sensor. Remember, this is only temporary.
THANKS sincerely for reaching out! This is EXACTLY what I had searched hours for with no joy! Would it be possible to shoot a pic of the "connector bundle"? I want to be sure I can find it!
My 05 is also a VP! It is one of the best Jags I have owned in my 20 years of driving them. My 97 VP is in the tie as well. I had a 2000 XJ8, but it was one of the worst ones!
Knowing where the connectors were (thanks to Bill's photos), I tested my knock sensors today. The ohms should be around 200 constantly by simply touching the 2 prongs in the connector with a voltage tester. My sensors were fine! I filled up the tank with fresh 94 octane gas and a bottle of Techron fuel additive. I drove the car 100 miles today with the CEL NOT coming on again (restricted performance). It had been coming on a few seconds after clearing the code. I will now also add Stabil to the tank to keep the gas fresh!

RH with respect to what? Seen from the front of the car, from inside the cabin, or from standing on one side of the car looking into the engine valley?
(What's the engine valley?)
Also, are the replacement knock sensors for the LH and RH sensor different?
