2006 XJ8 low beam replacement.

Default 2006 XJ8 low beam replacement.

Like many I've passed a few relaxing afternoons attempting to replace a HID bulb in one of these. I've managed to back out the inner Torx screw but the outer is hidden by the fender/wing flange. I suppose I could remove the bumper cover as directed but it occurs to me that the flange is just sheet aluminum, why not get out the tin snips and trim it back? The flange doesn't appear to be structural, removing it might give me just enough room to maneuver. I've placed a scrap of paper on the flange to indicate where I could trim to gain room to work. I would drill a hole in the inside corner to eliminate any stress risers of course. Thoughts?

no tools required just pull the plastic cover off

Hi Threeducs33,
Inside the cover you should see the HID lamp secured by a clip. There is a small silver rectangular connector to remove. Undo the clip and pull the HID lamp straight out.

Here is mine, I may be trying to make things more difficult though. Seems reasonable that it would just pull off once that clip is released. I've been unscrewing the little Torx screws, which is very difficult.

No, that holds the whole clip on. On the other side of the bulb, just unhook the wire clip, and you will see that the part you show is the hinge. In your picture it opens from left to right like a book. Tighten up those torx screws!

Yes indeed! I've only had the car a month, I don't know what I'd do without the help of people like you and the others who've taken the time to help me with my problems with the car, thank-you Pete! The car has 8i,000 miles on it, 1,000 being with me. Today I noticed that at least the left side upper A-arm looks fairly new, it might've been replaced when the coil-overs were installed. The car has more good than bad with it, these relatively small things need attended to. I have the CarFax history but there was no mention of the coil-over work being done. When I get it inspected I'll get under it and take some pics, find out who made the coil-over units. They have black bodies and red springs.

Hi Threeducs33,
Glad to help. I've had my car since 2019, and this forum has been a fantastic resource. I can't help about the coilovers, my car is still on its air suspension.
The replacement of the air suspension seems to be more common in the USA than the rest of the world. My car is ex-Japan, so has never been driven on salted roads. That makes a big difference when doing any work under the car, as everything is just dirty, not corroded.
