2007 XJ8 Pedal Sensor Replacement Shorting Out Computer and Throttle Body
Just got a doozy of a call from the mechanic. Quick background- We do not trust them and they are NOT a Jaguar mechanic, but our trusted guy sold his shop to them because of a medical emergency, and we were not notified until our car was there being worked on in July. The techs "fixed" the fuel pumps / strong gas smell ($3000) in July/August and had the car back in the shop fixing the same issue again over 3 weeks in August/September.
Got it back and the ignition was slightly hesitant at times to turn over, but that worked itself out. While in drive in an intersection on Friday, the pedal suddenly stopped responding. I shut the car off, restarted it, and limped my way home less than a mile away. Had her towed back to the shop that "fixed" the original problem thinking that it is related.
The tech called and said the pedal sensor needed replacement ($876), and we told him to proceed. They replaced the pedal sensor and called us to report that it shorted out the computer and throttle body and we would need to replace everything for the XJ8 to function again. Could replacing a faulty pedal sensor cause the computer to short out; or are they trying to cover up a mistake they made? If they replaced it with a new faulty part, could that have caused this problem?
Thank you for your expertise on this. We are in need of a new shop, but have spent nearly $4000, and need the current shop to make it right if they are at fault.

Let me get it straight: The shop admits that the sensor THEY put in your car shorted computer in your car?! How is that your problem? How about get it in writing and take it directly to small claims court.
I would rather think that it could be a broken wire in the harness to APP sensor, than shorted ECM.
Have you heard expression "cut your losses early"? I would take any money back, I can and go somewhere else.... before it cost me $$$$$ more.
After hearing your story, Shandy, I respect they guy I bring my other two cars to.. When I bought my 2004 XJ8 for first inspection sticker, he used colorful language and told me he is not going to allow this car on his lift blaming it on some guy named Lucas, prince of darkness!
