Default 2007 XJR Portfolio

My car is one of the 100 released to the UK market and the 150 into the USA market that has the Portfolio trim. The cast aluminium side vents have lost their original lacquer coating and I want to remove them and send them to a specialist polisher for refurbishment.
Has anyone got experience of removing these and if so any advice please. My local Jaguar Main Agent has advised that they would send the car to their bodyshop and the cost would "depend on" !! Once the work had commenced they would have to finish it and they are talking about several hundreds of pounds just to remove and refit.
The "standard" 2007 & 2008 XJR and X350 Sovereign and XJ Sports Premium models also have the same or similar side vent.
Thank you.: icon_question:

Here's the Jaguar fitting instruction document:

C2P19943 - Louvres .pdf

I expect the plastic body coloured, chromed or cast aluminium versions will all fit in the same way.

The XJR Portfolio vents are different Graham, they look like this;

My understanding is that the whole wing needs to come off to get the vents out.

But one of the guys here on the forum has done the job before, you might want to get in touch with him Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum - View Profile: Beavis

Sharpractice, when you get a moment jump in on this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2005-a-139921/ there's more information about your car; build numbers, etc and it would be great if you could share some pictures.

Thanks Cameron.

I bet they're a frightening cost!

When you could still buy them as spares from jag the vents were USD $7000 a pair. But they are no longer available to buy so you could call them priceless if you wanted to.

Default XJR Portfolio Vents

Thank you all for such prompt and helpful replies. This Forum really does work!
I think that the moderator Cambo is probably correct in that it may involve the removal of the wings or possibly the inner dirt shield to get at the attachments. I clicked on the suggested hyperlink to Beavis but this did not seem to be available. Any other route to this member who has prior experience of the problems? You are also correct in commenting on the "priceless" cost of obtaining replacements from Jaguar. If you look on the SNG Barratt website for this model you will see that a L/H vent is £2,073 and a R/H vent £6,648. Yes those figures are correct!! I have seen some XJ cars that can be bought for less than the price of these two small items of trim!
I will take some 'photos of my car as suggested and post them on our Forum. The car must be one of the lowest mileage vehicles around in that it has so far only clocked up 21,000 miles.
Regards to everyone from Scotland

You could try sending him a Private Message, I saw you left a Visitor Message on his profile. He put a set of these vents on his Super V8 when he had it resprayed.

The more I think about it, the more i'm sure you have to remove the whole wing to get the vents out.

Unless the situation changed recently, as of a couple of years back the vents were no longer available to buy, I checked with a couple of Jag part suppliers. The £6,648 for one of them sounds crazy (the £2000 is basically what I was quoted each), unless SNG Barratt have one in stock and they know how rare it is...

Thanks for the reflection. It looks as if removing the wings will be the only solution unless I get an alternative suggestion from my Visitor Message.
In the meantime I have posted two images of the car in question.
Regards
Frank

Hi,

Just for info I am having my Portfolio resprayed at the minute, they have had to take the wings off to polish the vents up, they originally planned to try and do it on the car but was too difficult to do.

Cheers,

Jon

I did not pay that much for my car. I like it without the shiny vents. The Portfolio look is very classy.
