Why would the hood be different? Since the grill 08'(isn't this being done) can be fitted to 04' cars, wouldn't the front bumper cover work as a direct bolt on?
Has anyone tried this yet?

I think the general consensus of someone that did the swap..
The Rear Bumper cover bolts right up, you do have to change the trunk finisher to get the 08 full length chrome strip.
The Front bumper cover needs new fenders, fender liners, grill, fog lights, and wiring harnesses.
if you search there was a guy in England that did it with no expense spared.

IF you had to have everything exact, it would be easier and more cost effective to trade yours up. OF you could make some small changes that could have a big impact.
Update the grille is simple, remove the chrome inserts and have them painted to match the body color, get a 2011+ lower matching mesh insert from the new XJ and place it in the opening on yours.
