Default 2009 XJ8 Stereo Upgrade (Maybe)

Hello All,

I am new to the Jaguar world having acquired a low mileage 2009 XJ8 with factory NAV. Obviously those screens suck and unless I am daft, I don't see a means to stream music through the thing.

Anyone have any ideas how I might go about upgrading this head unit? I am even considering swapping out the NAV for non-NAV then installing something with a capacitive monitor like a Pioneer NEX-8201.

I did find a site jagdroid.org which, I won't lie, intimidates me. I may be a darned good mechanic, I am not an electronics guy.

So, I see two options:

1. Downgrade to the split Climate/Stereo which may mean jacking up the harness (as long as I have the schematics and both harnesses I am not so intimidated by this one)

2. Do the JagDroid.org thingy, or at least find someone who can do it, and upgrade the screen.

Any advice would be swell!

Welcome to my world.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ontrol-206787/

I'm trying to replace the touch-screen and CD player (and boot mounted stuff), with a buttoned Jaguar Heater/Climate controller, my Alpine Nav Unit (shown here in my X308 XJR) with an Alpine PDX-9 5 channel amp in the boot.

Alpine INE-W997D

This unit has maps which can be updated via USB, a USB reader for MP3/FLAC and video files, DAB radio (with AM/FM too), iPod connectivity, Bluetooth streaming, and hands-free calling from your 'phone.

The radio should be the easy part as it will be independent from all the Jaguar systems (just needs power and aerial, not actually needed but nice - switch for light, reverse and handbrake), it's the air-con which has me perplexed as there're many vehicle functions built into the touch screen (folding mirrors, single/double lock, etc).

Do the JagDriod, anything else will look aftermarket. Have it in mine, looks 100% factory

If you can live with the screen you can modify the CD player to accept an aux in signal. That’s what I did on mine to be able to connect my iPod. It’s not as hard as it sounds to do it.
