Default 4.2 v8 interference engine

VVT timing device on the LH intake cam must be broke. Cam will not rotate. I can turn over the engine by hand and all cams but the LH intake turn. Is the engine a non interference engine or am I in for some bent valve stems?

Hello JAG V8, I thought my info was there. 2004 XJ8, 2000 Miata, 1969 Alfa. Is it not there?

I was afraid of that. Though I can turn the engine over by had and do not feel any interference. Since the LH intake cam doesn't turn maybe it stopped before much damage was done (wishful thinking). Just won't know until I get the head off and inspect thinks. BTW the head bolts are a bitch. Broke one socket so far, 1/2" drive impact socket won't fit into the recess. I am going to get a 13mm 6 point 1/2" drive and put a pipe on the breaker bar and try again.,

Good impact gun is well worth the investment.

Not just a 6-pt, but a tight-fitting socket is critical, I wound up breaking a couple of 13mm sockets, including a thin-walled impact socket. I managed to get one head bolt out and took it down to Lowes, Autozone, etc. to test-fit sockets. In 6-pt, all the 13mm were too loose, but a few of the 1/2" SAE sockets would fit. As I recall, it was a 3/8ths drive 1/2" SAE Craftsman deep socket that fit perfectly snug on the factory head bolt. That was the ticket. With that snug-fitting socket, all the head bolts broke free without any damage or drama. I wound up having to drill the head off the one bolt that broke the first sockets because it was already rounded off. Unfortunately, most all sockets today are designed a little loose with a chamfer and a "special" grind that's theoretically supposed to grab the hex behind the corners. That makes it easier/faster to get the socket on and off a bolt in a tight spot, but leaves it too loose and with too thin a wall for things like head bolts that have been frozen in place for 20+ years, especially on Jaguars where they tend to use the smallest hex head they can get away with for every application.

Yes, an indispensable tool. Did not have a 1/2" drive socket that will fit the recess. Just got a deep well I will try next.
