I was told by the Jaguar agency that my ac compressor needs replacement. Actually, the compressor itself is working fine, however; it is the electrical component (low pressure switch) that is built-in the compressor that is damaged. They gave me the part number C2C26772 which I found available on SNG Barratt & Jaguar Classic Parts at GBP663.37, however; I also found alternative part C2C26772-O at Mayton Automotive at GBP390, but since the part number had an additional "O" I am not sure if this is suitable for my car. Can you kindly give me your opinion on this matter?
My Car details are as follows:
Jaguar XJ6 2008
SAJAA89DZ8VH22594
I think the "O" means "OEM", in other words the part is from the supplier that supplied the compressor manufacturer. The low pressure switch is there to protect the compressor as low pressure means no or very little gas and this has lube in it too.
I have to say I'm surprised this switch is in the compressor, it is normally somewhere elsewhere on the coolant circuit. I'll have a look at my technical notes.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. I look forward to hear from you again. In the meantime, the Jaguar agency in Bahrain recommended replacing the drier, however; the gave me a quotation of the condenser unit instead. They said that the drier is built in with the condenser! I do not think this is correct as I found that the drier is sold separate from the condenser on SNG Barratt website.
Once again, thank you and hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you Meirion for your suggestion. I actually did take it to the normal AC workshop guys who faces 100's of challenges everyday. They said that it seems to be an ac compressor problem, however; they recommended that I take the car to the agency because the car is installed with too many sensors that could cause the same problem and only the agency has the computer to check and confirm.
Yes, you are right about getting hot in Bahrain, the temp here ranges between (45 to 50 Celsius that is 113 to 122 Fahrenheit) during July & August, while humidity is about 70 to 90% making it feel that as if you are in steam room all the time!
Your mechanic may actually be referring to the compressor solenoid valve which is actually in the compressor. You can find these on eBay for under 40 dollars. The compressor model is denso 7SEU16C. You'll have to raise the engine a few inches to remove and replace this valve and of course evacuate the A.C. system. Make sure it is well seated with the c clip. Otherwise it'll shoot out like a rocket! I recommend getting a set of manifold ac pressure gauges to verify your issue.
Thank you all for your support. I would like to share with you my experience regarding the ac compressor issues:
1- Mitchell was correct, "O" means OEM; hence, Myton automotive is actually offering the OEM part without the logo at half the price. I made the order, but yet to receive the parts.
2- Black Kat, you are absolutely correct, it is the solenoid switch that was damaged and the compressor is fine, however; solenoid switches that are available on ebay are mostly made in China. In Bahrain, almost all Japanese cars compressors comes with solenoid switch and no more clutch. I found that many people has replaced their solenoid with the Chinese part are complaining that it only last between 3 to 6 months before breaking down again.
3- Condenser & Drier: like in my case, the condenser is not damaged, therefore; I can replace the drier kit (Part No C2C15230). Many mechanics though that the drier is built in the condenser because they appear as one unit, but they were wrong.
4- Charging Valve: The charging valve was leaking, I fit commercial part but it only lasts 3 to 4 month before leaking again as the original valve is not available in Bahrain. I found the original part in UK (C2S5664) at around 24 GPB (commercial part cost only 3 GPB), but as I said it does not stay long and it is costly to replace the Freon gas every time. Please note that there are two valves (see picture). The part suppliers in UK will confused for the second valve part number. Actually, both valves are identical (see picture). Just order 2 of C2S5664.
