Well, the running costs of this car are related to the "new price", even when depreciated 80%. Unless you can do everything DIY.

I'll swap my car for a flat in Paris any day, howzatt ?

Running costs of a flat in Paris work out higher than the Jag but at least the de/appreciation is mostly in the upwards direction.
I haven't owned a car for some time, there's no real need here, I was renting a parking slot for €120/month to protect my Lotus Elise from Parisians' parking style (even with parking sensors installed, it's like they have to hear the crunching sound of impact)

In the UK it'll be a different story and I will need some form of personal transport.

I'm perplexed. Don't dream about a Jag unless you can afford it without selling property.
It is true I bought a "current '74 XJ6" in London in 1979, in my young days. But then, I bought it to export to NZ at a profit, which I did.

As far as I recall, vehicle running costs in the UK are no cause for amusement. I ran out of gas (Series 2) at some traffic lights, confidently switched tanks, then ran out again the other side of the intersection.
I toured Ireland, got a puncture, jacked the car up but the wheels stayed on the ground. All the rear rubber suspensions had let go. Fast forward what 40 years, my X358 has just had to get front rubbers replaced.

Do it for sure. I did and am still. But with eyes open.

Sounds like you had a fun experience with that XJ6. The memories made all those expenses worth it.
I won't buy anything until I return to the UK, I do need to sell up before that happens.
After I arrive there, I'll need a car but not for daily use, £10K is a reasonable price to pay for a used performance car. I'm familiar with the high costs of running a Jaguar, my dad had an XJ40 on the 80s. The modifications will come slowly as little gifts to myself when I can afford them over the following years. All the cars I have owned have been modified/upgraded, I get quite passionate (obsessed almost) about improving my acquisitions.

I was looking for a car that can transport a bicycle or two, is pleasurable to drive and reasonably cheap to buy (basically a practical toy or hobby car).
At first the Jaguar STR caught my eye, then I learned that the x350 XJR is only 7 inches longer, lighter and quicker for a similar price. I don't think it will depreciate much more so if I keep it for a decade or so, its value at worst will only drop a few thousand quid.

I wonder if these AUDI camera wing mirrors can hacked and grafted on to an old Jag

These are from a Koenigsegg Gemera
