air suspension
Hi brushpopper,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!
It would help us to respond more specifically if you would share with us the actual symptoms you are experiencing with your air suspension.
If your air compressor is original to your 2004 XJ8, the piston ring is definitely worn and no longer pressurizing the system as efficiently as it should. Replacing the ring with an inexpensive kit from forum member bagpipingandy is a job most folks with basic tools can do (you may need to purchase an inexpensive set of Torx bits for your ratchet). I can provide photos documenting the compressor rebuild to walk you through the process. I personally believe that it is very rare to need an entire new compressor - replacing the piston ring and cleaning corrosion from the check valve, air dryer and exhaust vent solenoid will usually restore the unit to its original level of performance.
You can check for leaks in your suspension by spritzing soapy water onto the air hose fittings and other fittings on the tops of the shocks (take care to not get water in the CATS electrical connectors), and on the air hose fittings on the valve block and air reservoir under the spare wheel in the trunk/boot. Bubbles indicate a leak. Search this forum for how to correct any leaks you find.
Please let us know the symptoms you are experiencing and we'll try to be more specific.
And since we're a friendly bunch around here, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can give you a proper welcome and learn something about you and your Jag.
Cheers,
Don
