To make a long and grueling story short. I contacted Jaguar USA with the findings of the independent repair shop. I was treated very nice though it took some time and I was asked to get my car to the dealer. At the dealer they have inspected and finds nothing wrong mechanically with the engine - compression and leak test is like a new engine. After the dealer talked with the independent shop and was tolled that the oil cap was off when they got the car in ( I was never told that) -The dealer believes that after the oil change, a week earlier - have not been driving a lot, the oil change shop had forgotten to put the oil cap back on - creating a mayor vacuum leak that sucked oil though the cam cover hose (PCV) into the intake.
They say they have seen this happen multiple time and the remedy is usually to put back the cap and burn of the oil - usually no damage, in this case the spark plus are bad.
Is this likely in practice that a missing oil cap can cause this - apparently a lot of oil since the spark plugs are destroyed? - I can definitely see it happen theoretically. The dealer is now putting the engine together again and want to let in run itself clean for oil/smoke - change spark plugs and O2 sensor. Too much excitement for me

 

Well that certainly is good news. I just wonder what the hell the independent mechanic was doing. Are they just full of crap? Didn't the indy shop say that the compression was low on one side?

 

The dealer has not confirmed that they can make it run - but for now I believe them - since the oil cap was off. It does seem like the indy is so full of crap that it brims out of their mouth. A little mistake done by forgetting the oil cap is turned into a new engine. If it is true that nothing really was wrong I will fight them on the bill and on the bill at the dealer for putting the air intake together - we will see.

 

How did you pick this mechanic?

I hope it all works out for you. I have an '06 and hearing that other '06s have problems is kind of scary!

 

So I got the car back from the dealer today - it smells like a oil refinery after driving. According to the dealer there is still oil residual in the exhaust and it will smell for a while but it will burn off. Oil cap was off - I can still not believe it and the diagnosis from the indy !!!!
Car is driving better now than before more smooth does not drag down idle much - we will see if it is long term - spark plugs and a couple of vacuum hoses were replaced and intake was completely cleaned from one end to the other.
I know the dealers does not have the best rep. but in this case they knew what they were during in details - very impressed!!!.

 

ROFL. AMAZING that after all that, the oil cap was STILL OFF!

Oh wait, maybe I misread. I thought you said the oil cap was still off after you got it back from the dealer.

well there are things we can't cure, like my jag gets this funny thing every once awhile like after driving for an hour or two if you turn the engine off then start it after like 15 mins, the engine runs rough and feels like it will stall, as soon as I put the shift on D or R the rough idling goes away, this has been happening since I got my car in 2008 and no dealer or shop can still identify the problem. I had 45k miles when I got my car and now it has 87k miles on it.

 

This sounds like the engine adaptations in the ECM. I suggest asking the dealer for a remap with the latest software. The engine sounds like it is overfueling on hot restarts. You might run a scan on the engine management to see if the temp sensor is acting normally before you go.
