Posting this as a learning lesson to other owners who aren't mechanically inclined, those (like me) who maintain a repair fund in lieu of learning how machines work.

The amber check engine light illuminated while running errands on Saturday. Naturally my mind feared the worst as the possibilities weighed on my mind Saturday night.

A half hour searching this forum the following morning helped me locate the issue. Went out to the car and fixed it myself. No tools, no trip to the auto store, and no I didn't snip the wire or clear the code manually.

Any guesses?

Hint - Owner is an idiot.

 

You didn't screw your gas cap back on after filling up.

 

Well I screwed it on but just one-click. This resulted in the dreaded Check Engine Light! Would prefer to get a descriptive message in the message center, not sure why Jaguar engineers chose to flip the Check Engine light which is jarring and sends most people to a dealer or garage immediately.

I'm a three click guy now, just like the sticker inside the fuel door instructs.
