Default Anyone know what this is for?

While changing my front fog light bulb, I came across this and don't know what it is for? I'm sure there are lots of things on this car that I don't know what they do, but thought I would find out.

It sits behind the front license plate on the left-hand side looking at the car.

Looking forward to the answer... I thought it was the "forward alert" sensor.
Thanks for posting the q!

It's probably the ambient temperature sensor. These are normally positioned somewhere at the front behind the radiator grill to be away from sunlight, such that they get the air flow over them when the car is driven.

Excellent! I'm sure there will be more questions like this. Thanks again!

Default And while we're on the subject...

Funny I was wondering about that thing just yesterday as I was trying to figure out how to pull my right side fog lamp lens forward just a bit as it's not resting in front of the ridges on the lower bumper.

So how do I get my fog lamp lens/cover pulled slightly forward so it sits properly and looks right. And how do you get at the bulbs to replace them anyway?! Do I need to enlist a small person to reach in there, or is there a trick that I need to know?

Thanks,
Stew

Almostthere,

You can try finding a small person, but that whole assembly easily came out for me after removing the two torx screws. Once I had it out, it was a matter of unplugging it, swapping out the fog light, and reinstalling. I was surprised at how easy the whole thing was. It probably took me about 5 minutes after I figured out how to remove that cover right next to the fog light.

Thanks, Eric. Actually I misspoke, it's that cover next to the fog lamps that I'm trying to remove. So how does that come out? I've tugged and reached behind and preyed and looked with mirrors and can't figure that out.

It's funny because I was doing the same thing about two weeks ago. I was worried I'd damage it. Then I saw the small slot in the top middle of the panel. When I slid a flat-edged screw driver into that slot and applied some pressure, it popped right out. It's actually sort of hinged on the bottom.
