Default Arnott Air spring AS-2710 - anyone try this? Comments?

I've read a lot on here about the Arnott coil spring conversions, but what about the Arnott air spring part # AS-2710? The owner of an indy garage in Toronto that deals with Jaguars was telling me they are great and he can't tell the difference between the original Jaguar front air spring C2C41349 and this aftermarket unit when driving XJ cars. The Arnott air spring is about half the cost of the Jaguar part, however, Arnott says the CATS active suspension does not work with it, so that auto adjusting firming and softening is no longer there. Anyone try these Arnott air springs? Opinions?

do you have any dash lights on Mike? I know they use some electrical connection to trick the ECU into thinking it's all there but apparently nothing for the later cars if you go with the coil over system.

Here's my write up on options, mention of the CATS system being disabled.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...thread-111271/

Brent, I read a few other reviews on them, and people seemed to be happy with it. Arnott does not say who makes the shock; they make their own for the coil over system. They claim it's superior to the Bilstein stockers; Bilstein says that they are inferior

Not much information to go on and make an educated choice.

I've replaced two of mine with rebuilt Arnott units. The CATS functionality is still there with the rebuilt units, they seem to work as well as the originals, you can replace them one at a time as they fail rather than taking the expense all at once, and they have a lifetime warranty. What's not to like?

I had a dash light due to a bad "sensor" in one of the shocks but they sent a new one out right away to replace it.

these are the new units, you lose cats witht hem. the rebuilt ones are still used, you keep cats

As Mike pointed out (and is in my thread), the CATS is gone with the new Arnotts. The connector you hook up is simply an electric trick so that the CATS lights don't come on.
The shocks are NOT adjustable, so that is one downside.

In January of 2013 I had two Arnott's installed on the rear suspension of my XJ8.
They cost about $400 each plus shipping instead of the Jaguar price of $1400 EACH!!!!

So far as I can tell they work just fine, and have held up for 15,000 miles. I do not know if the CATS functions or not. The front still has the originals on it and they should still work even if the rears do not.

from the horses mouth so to speak (member arnottdoug - who works for them; forum sponsor rep)

"Unlike the OEM equipment which will need a signal to dampen from firm to soft. The Arnott Front Air Shocks part AS-2519 have internal dampening and will come with a bypass sensor built in to the top to bypass the message on the dash."

The CATS still functions with the rebuilt Arnotts.

ah, I see. You have the rebuilt units, missed that. Yes, the rebuilt units do keep the CATS system. The downside was that the shock portion was used, so you had no idea how many miles were on the used shocks.

*however, I saw a post where someone was told by Arnott that they now use 'new shocks'. Their own design or something. ?

Anyone knows if these sensors are replaceable? I know my left one is bad because it intermittently throws an error of C1424 - LH front damper actuator drive circuit; open circuit.

I contacted Arnotts but no dice since I was not the original purchaser of the shock...

I am thinking that the sensor cannot be more than a resistor of some type that draws enough current to fool the computer...
