Do any of you guys have experience with Auto Trader?
I've had my cherry 05 XJR on for 10 days and got barely 10 hits a day. The car is the lowest priced XJR for its year and miles within 500 miles of central FL and not 1 call.
Before the Internet when they were largely a magazine, the word was they were pretty much a vanity publication. I'm starting to think not much has changed.

My experience was hit or miss. I had a Yukon on there a few years ago. I paid for the $50 for like four weeks or whatever it was. Had a couple calls. Traded it in cause there was nothing happening. In my opinion, a listed car on there has to sit on there. Pay for the unlimited time and wait. Its like selling a house, right *** in the right seat. I never SOLD a car through there but listed many. Got some calls on all of them though.
I used it in the UK to find my XJ6 but I was looking for dealer cars, not private sales. The legal position in the UK is such as to discourage private sales, and also many vendors over-price their cars, although not saying you have.
I paid £10,000 for a 30k, one owner car of 2003.
However, better to look yourself, as it was 18 months ago I bought mine. Remember we have to pay £1.30-1.35 a litre for petrol (gas). Diesel is even more at £1.40-1.45. There is no tax to pay on secondhand vehicles, although the dealer has to pay some which is factored into the price

Between the economy and the holidays, I think it's just hard to sell a car right now esp a luxury one. I know in my area the Jags don't seem to be selling. I just bought mine and spent two weeks negotiating. That being said have you tried craigs list? Might find more people there looking for a private party bargain.
I have spent the last 5 years watching certain autos on Autotrader, Craig's List, and Autos.
I have noticed that luxury models may stay on the site 6 months or more in a couple cases. I have also noticed that there are twice as many MBs and BMWs as there were Jaguars.

I stand corrected....

I've purchased 3 cars on ebay. When I went to pick them up I figured I could always back out even if it meant losing the deposit. That being said the other thing may be the poor economy and the time of year. Most folks don't have extra money right now for cars. That's why it's a good time to buy!
As to the ratio of J/MB/BMW it is just about in line with my 10/10/1 formula. A few years ago when I just got my Jag the wife and I went on a lenghty road trip (in the van, arrrrgh) of about 2500 miles. to pass the time I had a sheet of paper where we marked the three different manufacturers as we saw them on the expressway. The count was even for MB and BMW at 90 and 91 and 11 for Jag. One reason for this was I was so impressed with the Jag and like the fact that you don't see them all over. I guess I just like to be different.
Maybe put that xjr on ebay when your autotrader ad runs out.

naw, jaguar sells fewer than they do, which is fine. Around here beemers, lexus, benz are a dime a dozen.
When I was shopping for my XJ this year I was on AutoTrader at least once a day. As a shopper I felt they had the best inventory and I loved their alert notice. It showed all new listings since I last searched, with a smartphone version too. I felt AutoTrader was to used cars what Expedia is to air travel - all content in one place. They have good functionality to view pictures and CarFaxes. My #2 was eBay, but they had a lot of scary vehicles -- water damage, frame damage, cars that had been in an accident. Great photos though.
Does your listing have a CarFax? If a listing didn't have the CarFax I skipped the listing.
Jaguar is an acquired taste, I suspect the only people hitting your listing are semi-serious shoppers.
I actually found my car on AutoTrader, listed by a Jaguar dealer. I then sold my previous car within 48 hours of putting it on the market. I didn't even have time to put it on AutoTrader. I spent a weekend detailing it - literally - then made professional looking signs that listed relevant features, screenshots of the KBB and NADA value, and hung them in both rear windows. Not those 99 cent signs from the store, these were large, clear signs I made in Word and printed on white paper with all the facts and features, and no embellishments. I priced it 10% lower than blue book and parked it where there was heavy foot traffic (in my case the local train station). I got two calls on the first day, one from the meter maid, the other from the guy who bought it. You might consider doing the same, and park it all day at Home Depot or a grocery store or a shopping mall, someplace with constant foot traffic. Jaguars always turn heads, and a shiny one for sale could tempt someone who never thought to search for one online -- you know, the "It's only $xx,xxx?? I can afford that!" effect.
