Default Best Source for Coil Packs

My 05 Super V8 (108k miles) had a coil pack fail recently which probably means that they are all original and need swapping out. (plugs too while I'm at it) Can anyone recommend a source of good quality coils that are a bit less dear than the factory ones on SNGBarratt for $88 each, but a bit more reputable than the ones on Ebay for $86 for a set of 8!!! Input from actual experience is most appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

Bought the cheap ones from China, for about that price for eight.
Lifetime warranty, been on both mine for a year or so with no issues.
Still have the stock ones in the trunk.
No issues with them, but with it's first spark plug change, at almost 100,000 miles.
Time was right would buy again, money back warranty from Ebay is great.

Hi Jeff,

The original on-plug ignition coils were made by Denso but are no longer available. The coils Jaguar now supplies as replacements are made by Airtex and are marked FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company). Rock Auto has carried them for less than $35.00 each, but they appear to be out of stock. The Delphi coils they currently carry are probably fine, but I have no direct experience with them.

If you don't want to replace all eight coils at once, there's no problem replacing the defective one now but keeping a couple of spares in your trunk to replace the next ones that go.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks for the excellent and useful sourcing info. It occurred to me to just swap out the plugs and leave the rest of the coils alone but I have my doubts about this strategy. The coils are 14 years old and they live under pretty rough circumstances deep inside the head. I had an experience with a VW where I had a misfire under full throttle that drove me nuts until I swapped out the coils and cured it. It turns out that coils can weaken without failing so they still fire under most circumstances but not under full combustion pressure. What I do NOT want to do is swap out a good quality but aging set of OEM coils with a low quality new set which could be nothing but trouble. Thus my post asking for advise.

The OE ones seem very good - but of course not perfect - so I chose to get a spare and carry it so I could swap it if I got misfire codes.

Still running on the original ones

Swapping them all for good quality ones would be better but I've chosen to save the $$$.

(As the OE servicing shows when to change plugs, i.e. 100K miles, I've done that, though the NGK iridiums I took out looked in great shape.)
