Default Boot/Trunk Lock 'Sticking'?

Dear Forum,

My boot/trunk lock is sticking. The Actuator actuates and the boot lid comes up, but the latch catches it and holds it! I have taken a look and the lever comes forward (towards me), but not all the way and this is why it is catching.

So it is not the microswitches and it is (probably) not the actuator because all are working?

Any suggested remedies, please?

Has the lid been replaced since the accident?

If so, maybe it was not reinstalled properly.

Mine acts up on occasion, shutting and then reopening seems to work.

Keep us informed, on your progress knowledge is power.

Power to stay away from the repair shop.
Good hunting

Hello Wingrider.
I don't know if they replaced the lid or just knocked the dent out of my existing lid. The lid had been resprayed....And not particularly well (although the colour match is very good); I had to get them back out to me to 3000 grit it to flatten it and polish it back up! I then took my car back to them and they say it is not fitment, it is the actuator failing?
They certainly replaced the plastic back panel and bumper. I don't know whether the mechanical lock is specific to one's car's key? With the lid open if I push the little tiny button up inside the lids lock, I hear the actuator working and my 'lever' comes towards me, but not all the way...And that is what is causing the problem.

I am going to try to remove the actuator, clean it up and spray with lithium grease. Has anybody done this before? I strongly suspect that Meirion1 (our actuator king) has!

Could it have been damaged in the mishap, did the trunk work after the accident & before it was repaired?

If not, the insurance should make you whole, or as it was before you were hit.

The actuator was working okay for a couple of days after my car was fixed and so were the gas struts that hold the boot lid up. Then, it started sticking and (obviously by coincidence) at the same time the gas struts failed!
Wingrider, as you well know there are two Laws in life; Murphy's Law and Sods Law; Murphy's Law states that if something can go wrong, it will go wrong. Sod's Law states that when it does go wrong, it will always do so at the worst possible moment!

Ce la (bleeding) vie!!

I am not sure what the problem is there.

I would have it replaced by insurance co.

Thanks Meirion1.
Would you happen to know if the 'mechanical' lock is key-specific, please?

My first X350 had this problem, and it was cured by a new set of struts. The mechanism relies on the struts pushing up the lid on opening.

The mechanical key must be specific surely.

That does not prevent you replacing the actuator and using your old key.

Thank you Fraser!

My struts had given out at the same time, but I thought that was just another of those Jaguar coincidences!!
