Default Bought a code reader and have entered the late 20th Century!

Hey guys.

I got a check engine light on the Jag. I hate that! I also have this alpha male belief that I can fix anything (despite my experience of failure!).

So there was a code reader on sale at Canadian Tire (Innovate 3030 - which is recommended in the general tech forum) and used it.

The code was p0101.

I looked up the code - mass air flow - and googled this site and found a bunch of threads on cleaning the MAF.

I bought some cleaner and voila!

the check engine light is gone, and now I feel real clever

Using this forum I also took the J gate shifter mechanism out this weekend and cleaned it, pushed the little button thingy on the side, tightened up the bolts underneath and the transmission is as slick as butter going from park to drive!

LOL, since you're using a modern engine with lots of electronics involved then it's a wise move to treat yourself a new code reader .
However, not to spoil or break your party but if there is something major it will come back eventually

Well I've just discovered a slow leak in one of the tires, and it didn't fix that

It does that!

While it won't prevent anything from braking down, at least I feel informed, and some of the smaller stuff I may be able to fix myself.

I drive the Jag two, maybe three times a week. I have a slow leak in the LH rear tire. Every other time I drive it, I have to fill it with air!!!

Well, that's too much , if I were you I would have a tyre shop staff perfom air buble test and find the smoking gun

Yeah. By fill it with air, I mean it throws a TPMS warning. Usually I keep the tires at around 32 psi, and after a week they're at around 25 psi. I will get it fixed once I save up some money to do it! I need to stop doing elective repairs--it's bad for my wallet!
