Default ? on buying 2008 XJ w/ 100K

Hi

Looking at a 2008 XJ w/ 100K.
What can I expect for maintenance and issues in the next 30K or so?
I that a ton of mileage for that car?

Thanks
Joe

As Wingrider has posted...are these 100K well maintained miles or 100K neglected miles? Lots of variables to consider. Is this a private seller or a dealership? If you have an OBD II scanner check for trouble codes. If not, a trip to a reliable mechanic to test compression, fuel pump, all sensors, hell everything, is in order.

1. Air suspension leaks.
2. Suspension bushing
3. Water Pump and belts replacement
4. Spark plug at 100 K miles
5. Air suspension compressor
6.Oil and filter for transmission maintenance

X358 is a very reliable car except for the items listed above. You will need a Jaguar specific code readers to find out all the issue. It cost around $150.00.

Air suspensions once older are problematic on any vehicle. For that reason I'd prefer a later x308. But the x350 has an aluminum body which is preferable for the rust belt if you plan on keeping the car a long time.

Exactly why i purchased mine.
Best priced used car out there.
Bad reputation (Lucas electronics) from the past, as well as depreciation.
All factor in well for us, as well as the rather massive size, of the car,
But the Ford suspension from their big cars on this car.
With their ignition, & electrical systems, made them dependable as a Crown Vic.
Fords best quality full sized car, look at the police, taxi, govt, fleets of cars.
Big comfortable, rear wheel drive, four door beauties.
That get great mileage for their size, if you can restrain a heavy foot.
They are known to run virtually forever, if their well maintained.
Just not as sporty,or racy looking, & not available as a convertible.
Have to smile every time i ride either of these magic carpets.

@Wingrider I had a '94 Crown Vic with the rear shocks being air. Sure enough they gave out and the back of the car looked like a dropped low rider. I had them replaced with steel conversion springs but regretted it as the mechanic never turned off the air compressor and so it kept buzzing in the trunk. If I were to ever own another car with air suspension I will just pay the money to maintain it properly.

BTW - Those 4.6 Modular V8's ran and ran but are notorious oil burners from the valve seals.

Never had one myself, but you learned to repair the air shocks.
My 79 Ford F150 was a great old truck.
Three on the tree, inline 300, six, work truck, bought it new.
With regular maintenance, it never used any oil.
So far both Jaguars are the same, never even check the oil level.
Till it's time to change, then just to make sure things are well.
Did you buy it new, if not, maybe it was used, & abused.
Suspension issues can, & need to be repaired on any car.
Just like brakes, tires, oil, & filters, wear items.
You needed a better mechanic, or learn to do it yourself!!!!!!!
The cost of doing business, or riding in or on, ANY vehicle, cost money.
Stop bitching, get busy, or pay someone.
Great advise, to be told, when your young.
Just seems it's no longer put to the kids this way.
Everything, as well as everybody needs looked after.

You're right, I do need to up my mechanical skills. Part of it is lack of time and not wanting to screw something up. Like the time I decided to replace the thermostat on another Ford in the dead of January in my driveway. I ended up breaking one of the bolts that holds the housing in place. Thankfully I found a guy on Craigslist who knew what he was doing who came out and got the bolt out. Some things I am confident in doing, others I just prefer to let a pro handle it.

The pro started with no knowledge, like everyone else.
A heated garage, with another car to drive is a big advantage.
Having just one broken vehicle, no garage in the dead of winter, sucks BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been there, done that, didn't care much for it at the time.
Helps me now though, to get off my ***, with all the comforts i have now, in the shop.
