Default Caution when removing rear climate air register

Some may already be familiar with this, but I wanted to pass along a tip regarding removing the floor console with the rear climate control. The correct way to remove it is full disassembly, and not to just pry it off like the instructions say for vehicles without rear climate control. Even with full disassembly, use caution to gently release the locating tabs on the bottom and sides. If these break, the register will not be held in properly. Mine was broken upon purchase. When looking for a replacement, I noticed all of the used ones on eBay and such also had broken tabs. I ended up gritting my teeth and getting a new one. Hopefully this will save others the same expense.

A better grade of plastic compounding would go a long way in avoiding this type of thing.

Dave,
I really appreciate this info because I'm just about to take my console out. Can you please explain what you mean by "Full Disassembly" VS "prying off"??? I thought that panel was only held in with snaps that must be pried off.

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

The ACM install pdf stored here has the information needed.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...cm-install.pdf

Once the HVAC controls and power outlets are removed, you can reach through the opening and release the tabs.

No the volume control appears to be fastened with screws from the underside.

I just had the dealer replace mine under warranty as it came off without fingernails abuse. The paint was peeling ie. not adhering well. The service manager told me it was an easy task for them as they just pop the knob off but I don’t know how.
