Default Compressor Post Mortem

I did a post mortem on the compressor I just removed. It appears to be a pretty well made unit. It's achilles heel is that the cylinder the piston rides up and down in wears out--not the seal. The is a noticeable groove in it. I was also surprised to find a dessicant cannister in it with a lot of water and a very rusty spring. Would not be hard to rebuild if you had the parts. The motor including brushes is pristine. I will try to post some pics in the next couple of days.

That's great information, Eddie. Thank you. Do you believe we could replace the cylinder, or make a sleeve for it, then clean up and refresh the dessicant canister? I would love to know your $.02.

It may be well made but I would prefer if it was made just a little bit better, as they don't seem to last very long.

Clearly the area for improvement is the compressor cylinder, and possibly the water trap purging process.

As I said, it is definitely rebuildable. Too bad there is not a kit. The cylinder is definitely the weak spot.

Jaguar has a Remanufatured Unit, part# C2C27702E listed in the XJ Parts List. So there has to be a rebuild kit out there, maybe direct from Wabco?

I ordered several used units from EBay and will attempt to swap parts to rebuild one of them as a standby.

I had one of the remanufactured units fitted last year, on a service exchange basis, so clearly there is a process for rebuilding these units.

Trouble is that they will all have worn cylinders and rusty parts and worn dessicant.

If there is a rebuild kit out there, it is a well kept secret.
