Default Cup holder lid missing?

I (well, my spouse) is the proud new owner of a 2004 XJ8 - something she's wanted for about 25 years. It looks (to me) like part of the cupholder is missing - like it should have a cover or lid of some sort?

But Googling for images, and looking at parts on ebay, etc, doesn't turn anything up - and I can't find an image of an interior with a cover (but this seems to be the less common armrest / console design.

Is there something missing or is this how it is meant to be?

Thanks!

Congratulations on the car. The lid of the armrest actually slides forward to cover the cup holder spot (which will not hold a large cup).

You need to post in the new member section and tell us about your (her) car. There are a lot of 2004's on here.

It's not quite clear to me which model, for instance mine is an "Executive" (the lowest model lol).
My cupholders are slightly different (one is larger than the other), and no there's no cover. (the armrest part does not slide forward).
Biggest problem I have is that my thermos flask is a snug fit in cup holder and tends to pull the whole plastic out with it. Such are the trials of owning a Jaguar.

Classy spouse though, especially as she's been waiting (15 years) for the X350 to even come out!. She won't be disappointed.

(Your leather Cup Holder surround appears to stop short of the Gear Lever surround, so it's different from mine. The photo was so close-up, that it took me a while to decide it was the front cup holders and not some rear thingy)

+1 on the cup size. A travel mug with a maximum bottom diameter of 2 1/2" will fit ok. Can't count the number of times my other coffee mugs hit the deck spilling their contents.

Looks identical to my set-up. Are you sure something (like that hand sanitizer) has jammed it? I just lift up on the latch, pull upward just a bit harder, and slide the cover forward. The armrest lid should slide towards the dash until it latches again as the lid comes to rest over that 'felt' trim around the front of the cupholders. Good luck!

Thanks! Now I feel foolish.

But I hope that all my problems are as easy to solve.

My turn. I checked mine again and in the words of Galileo "Yet it moves!"
Probably never been moved since the factory.
