Default Deep Dive!

Wish me luck. I'm headed to Florida on Tuesday to look @ a 05 Super V8 Black on Black. 78,000 miles. I've heard all the reassurance I can stand with this one time to go see!

It's been about 6 months since I first started looking. I told myself I wasn't traveling for a car but here I am. Hope I'm not buying a plane ticket home.

Made it back today around 11:00. Car looked pretty good in Fla. On the way home I did get a CEL coded out to P2601 with a restricted power notification. Recon I have to look into the aux pump, where ever that is. Car ran great up to that point.

Going I knew I was going to need brakes soon and the head line has a few loose spots so I have that in front of me as well.

I never heard the air pump run the entire way so I wasn't looking for any problems due to the fact that It didn't set any faults. Front left is sitting up higher than the right and rear looks squatty, but may be normal. I have an awful lot of heat coming from the center console. That to me would be a valve in the wrong position or not shut?? also the climate control was in auto the entire ride up. So I don't know. LOL

Update: Somehow I got off on the wrong track with this code P2601 is NOT the Aux Coolant pump. Its the S/C coolant pump. Big difference in function and price. The S/C pump delievers coolant to the S/C intercooler, its intertwined with the rest of the cooling system and the pump is on 100% of the time when the key is in the II posistion.

The Aux Pump (which I did need because the connector had melted) provides hot water to the heater core when commanded. I'm not really sure of the details of how it totally works, but that's the short story.

I hope you got it for a good price. Super V8 is the best trim level IMO.

It's been a month since I drove out of Florida and I made it thru MD. inspection Wed. Tagged and titled Thursday. So the bleeding has stopped for while now.

To recap my good deal.... not really that good if the price is to low there is a reason. I needed both electric water pumps total cost 700.00, a left upper ball joint which is actually an upper control arm. Internet vendor 459.00 shipped, and an inner tie rod 59.00. At first blush one would think you needed an entire rack and pinion because Jaguar has no service parts. I did find a replacement due to the fact the rack is the same as LS Lincoln.

All in all I'm still a happy camper! Now I can enjoy the car! Headed to Md Live (New Casino) after picking up my daughter @ BWI. I tried a bit to late to find a DVD from her childhood days to play as a joke but no way LOL.

The suspension bushes on these cars are a well-known "unfair wear and tear" item. By that I mean they are items that one would expect to wear out eventually, but they seem to wear out just a bit too early for most owners.

My theory is it is caused by the use of very low profile tyres on large diameter wheels, like 20". The walls of these tyres do not absorb much of the high-frequency road vibration, so this now goes into the bushes. My own car needed rear lower wishbones due to bush wear, and it was only on 55k miles, but had 20" Sepangs fitted when new. I replaced these with 18" wheels at around 35k but the damage was obviously already done.

The 2005 VDP I bought for my son last week ($15,345) has the rear DVD/Entertainment system and Jaguar Voice, but no bluetooth. I bought a warranty with it and they have done about $1500 worth of work on it. Replaced rear lower control arms and bushings, and it turned out the previous owner had indeed lowered the car by shimming the height sensors - reversed all that and reset the system and aligned it. Luckily the air suspension system is in great condition - no leaks, compressor is in good condition. It was from NJ originally and had some rust under it but my mechanic has some stuff that he sprays on the rust that converts it into a polymer that actually stops the rust and turns into a layer that protects the metal. I think it is called O-Chem, or something like that. You can google it.

The car otherwise is in great shape. He's 22 and gonna be driving a VDP on his base. I'm sure he will be the envy of some there!

Gonna put some new tires on it. We put the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires on my wife's 05 VDP a couple months ago. They are absolutely silent and ride great.

I'm sure the Super V8 has great power. The 4.2L in these cars already get up and go! I have not driven the Super V8.

I'm sure you will get a lot of good driving out the car!

@ ooootis i too recently had the "restricted engine performance" reading. not to say that this is your problem but i was told my supercharger gasket and my air cooler seal are leaking air. my car runs fine and you wouldn't notice a thing could be wrong other than when you punch it. at 5000 rpm the car misfires, bogs down and down shifts out of passing gear, the check engine light blinks then everything goes back to normal. when i get some free time from work i plan on getting a second opinion with my situation just to double check. good luck and hope yours is a cheap and easy fix.

My problem was the S/C coolant pump. They had unplugged it because it was on its last leg. I found this out while I was changing the Aux water pump for the rear climate control. I came across a stray connector and traced it back, plugged it in of course it blew a fuse almost immediately. S/C coolant pump will set you back 700.00 about 2-3 labor if you do it your self an a few gallons of antifreeze.

Good luck with your repair.
