As you all know, when retracting the sunroof, the roof also pulls the sunshade back with it. My problem is when I go to close the sunroof, it pulls the sunshade with it until it is halfway and then both units gets stuck. I'm hoping that it won't take pulling the headliner apart to fix this problem. I was able to get the sunroof to close but I had to use channel lock pliers to get a good grip to pull the sunshade to a full close.

When closing the sunroof should pull the sunshade only up to the point where you are able to close the sunshade by hand, but the sunroof itself should close completely.

I fear that in order to solve your problem, in the end you will have to remove the headliner, but there is a first step that I would try: if you pull back the sunshade, but leave the sunroof closed, you are then able to remove the glass of the sunroof. Maybe this already gives you an access enabling you to see why the mechanism gets stuck.

To remove the glass, follow the attached instructions.
