Default Drivers seat won't lower rear portion.

Hi Folks,

My drivers seat that won't lower its rear portion in my 2004 XJR. The motor kind of twists weakly, clunks, and then stops.

I detached the seat and used silicon spray to lube the screw that the rear motor is trying to turn. The spray didn't make a difference. |
I'm not sure what I should replace or where to order the parts. I'm guessing I'll replace the motor or the whole up/down assembly, but any advice is appreciated.

Just a guess, but often replacing the brushes will fix things.
Take the motor out, open it, to see if they are worn down.
If theres an automotive electrical repair shop around you.
They should be able to repair it for you to reinstall.
There is still such a place in Akron Ohio.
Kinda looks like a grungy hole in the wall sort of place.
Al the bays are full, with vehicles outside waiting.
Place has been Known for decades,as a reputable place.

Interesting! Google doesn't seem to think that there is an automotive electrical repair shop near me...

Hi David,
At the point where the motor drive turns at right angles, there is a black cover plate with two torx screws. I wonder what you might find in there that is binding. Perhaps there are nylon gears that have a broken tooth, or something is caught between the gears? It would be worth checking it out.

Hi David,
Did you get this sorted?
It sounds like the same issue I am struggling with, will be my next task to fix.

I just replaced the motor gears on my X-type, but this is a different sound, those motors just ran freely as the broken plastic teeth meant there was no load.
In the XJ, there is is just that clunk as it preloads then finds it cannot move, so weak motor/brushes, or jammed mechanism maybe?

Thanks,
John

I had exactly this problem, it got sorted out by gripping the threaded part firmly and just twisting it a bit, it seems like the thread had reached the end of travel and just jammed in position, manually moving it did the trick for me and its working just fine now.
