Default Engine sensor/ Does anyone know what this controls.

Left side of engine. Sensor desinegrated upon dislocation.

What does this sensor affect? Right side of engine.

Looks like your cam position sensors if these are at the rear end of your cam covers.
Red and Yellow wires are to the right bank, whereas Brown and Green wires are to the left bank according to my schematic (2006 N/A model).
You haven't stated year or engine type, so I don't know which exact schematic to reference for wiring colour codes.

Any of these plugs in the engine bay are getting brittle now......not uncommon to have the locking tab snap when you try to release the connector.
Sometimes some heat on the connector will make it supple enough to release without failing.

The VVT ACTUATORS are not sensors, they are ACTUATORS.
They control the oil flow to the Variable Valve Timing components on the camshaft.

The SENSORS are located on the back (rear) of the cylinder head.

+1 on Motorcarman if these are at the front of your Cam Covers...VVT Actuators.

Thanks for the correction Motorcarman, the wiring colours don't seem to match VVT, but we don't know which engine nor year from OP, so that might be a red herring.
