Engine wont start
Hi
I'm having a problem on my 06 XJ8. 43500 miles on it.
All of sudden, the engine won't start. It won't even crank. All of the warning lights came on, Abs fault, Gearbox fault, air suspension fault, , Stability control, transmission fault , etc
I charged the battery for about 10mins, and tried to restart and get nothing. No crank or anything.
Anyone has the same problem??
Thanks for any help on how to get it to crank even?

In cases like this you sometimes need to backtrack to when the car was last OK and working. Anything unusual happen before you shut the engine down, and how long has it stood since you attempted to start and found the fault ?
What does work electrically ? (obviously the instrument panel and warnings does !). Under the panel at the front of the engine compartment there are three earthing (grounding) points, two on RH and one LH. Take a look and see if they are secure and uncorroded. These little things have been known to cause a whole host of symptoms and faults.

I paid for the new J Gate, costs me around 1k.
The dealer put in the new engine control module. Fortunately, it's covered under warranty. btw, my warranty's expired on last nov. that's why I paid for the new J Gate.
The something is still not right. They finally said that the fuse box under the hood must be replaced because it's sending out low voltage.
costs $420.
Is this normal? Initially, is the J Gate needed to be replaced?? wired.

Normal behaviour is that they turn on to indicate that they are working, and then after some delay, they will turn off. Many people do not really notice this because they normally start the car immediately without waiting for the system scan to complete.
You should be asking what they *did* check before deciding on replacing particular components. An all warnings on condition is often a general power problem not limited to a specific component like a jgate.
And entire fuse boxes don't go bad. Something in the main feed to the fusebox is bad somewhere along the line. If it is *low* voltage, then there is *some* voltage. Most people would be looking for a bad connection by tracing back with a voltmeter all the way to the voltage source(s). If there is a bad connection, a new fusebox will also show the same faults.
