Fitting a towbar

#2
Hi,
I'm sure someone on here will be able to help out.
My 2004 XJ8 has a tow bar fitted and appears to be factory fitted as it's listed on the original order and the original purchase invoice. To fit mine they cut a large hole in the center of the rear bumper/fender and then fit a removable access door as the tow bar is removable. Not sure if this will need to be done to fit a tow bar to yours. Anyway good luck.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi phatman,
I managed to buy one from Home | All4jags - Jaguar Parts Europe & Cars 2 years ago. Wasn't cheap, but didn't want to admit my defeat. So now I have a Super V8 that could tow a caravan which I'll probably never do. I mostly use it for a bike rack. It came with an aftermarket electrical kit to attach to the rear lights without messing up all the Jaguar "smart" electrics.
The only thing I'm still looking for is a neat way of covering the hole, when the hitch is removed. Now I solve it by not removing it. And laughing at it; A Jaguar with a towbar.... ;-) And not to be rude to Jaguar purists I even put a roof rack on it sometimes.
Attached picture on its winter wheels, with towbar and roof rack. Don't say a XJ is not a versatile familycar

Thanks for the info. I think I have given up on the idea of finding a towbar. I have had offers from an engineering firm to make and fit one but wonder how well it would suit the car. Don't want to do anything which would cause damage or problems down the line. Also near impossible to get suitable wiring done. Will probably end up buying another vehicle to use for towing. Probably would work out about the same price as fitting a towbar to my Jag.
Cheers, John
