I just got one with a pile of parts, has Jaguar part # C2C35417 shown on it. For my 2005 but should be the same I'd imagine.

oh wait, yours in an XJR, could be different; I'd check.

I have had my 2004 XJR since October of last year and the weather is finally good enough to do some work on her outside. I changed the fuel filter today and it was simple and straight forward. Some residual fuel will leak out when you disconnect the filter but it was minor and not under pressure. I did not see any O-rings on either side of the fuel line. But both sides of the fuel lines were flared. In the plumbing industry flared lines do not need O-rings to be leak free. After installing the new filter I tightened mine up both ends and started the engine (leave the under tray off so that you can check for any leaks) and it was leak free.

Thanks to everyone on the Forum for their many tips and advice. It sure makes it easy for a newbie like me.

This is a good question. Google shows many, many sources of fuel filter O-rings for XJs from 1997-2003 and 2009 on up, but not one for 2004-2008 XJ8s. Neither Advance Auto nor Amazon has O-rings for 2004-2008 XJ8 either.

Hi Xeno,

Just so you know, this thread has had no activity since April 2015. You can tell by noting the date of the most recent post prior to yours.

The X350 fuel filter installs in the fuel line via standard threaded fuel line compression fittings - there may be small O-rings on the pipe ends but they are usually reusable.

Cheers,

Don

Changed my fuel filter today after 162,000 miles. The gas in the filter was dirty brown and full of small debris. I probably should have changed this roughly 100,000 miles ago.

I replaced the fuel filter recently and the most surprising thing was that both fuel line nuts on the filter to be replaced were only hand tight.

I noticed an improvement in throttle response after replacing mine - recommended maintenance.

Hi NDW,

I recently changed the fuel filter on an '06 XJ8L with 97K miles, and on its inlet side the filter looked exactly as you described. I think we would all be well advised to replace the fuel filter more often.

Cheers,

Don

I've looked, but not been able to find the valve on my 2004 XJ8. Part of the problem is that I don't know what a fuel rail is. Can you say more precisely where it is or what the rail looks like?

Hi Xeno,

The fuel rail is the metal pipe assembly that feeds gasoline/petrol to the fuel injectors, so it sits on top of the engine. Below is the diagram from the Electronic Parts Catalog, which you can download from this forum and install on your own computer. Similar parts diagrams are available online at jaguarmerriamparts.com and gaudinjaguarparts.com. In the illustration the Schrader valve is visible in the upper right corner, which corresponds with the rear end of the right cylinder bank (left when viewing the engine from the front of the car).

Take care when connecting anything to the Schrader valve, especially with the engine running. Depending on which section of the Workshop Manual you consult, the fuel pressure in the system can be as high as 1600 to 1650 bar (23,206 to 23,931 psi!).

Cheers,

Don

Default Fuel Filter

Just changed the fuel filter on my 2004 today and the fuel line ends do have small orings to seal to the filter.Reused the original seals but next filter will want to replace the orings once I find replacements the right diameter.
