Headlamp Bulb replacement
Hello all, I just purchased a 2008 XJ8 the drivers side headlight was inop, I replaced it with new, however the passenger side is now dimmer then the drivers side I have a new bulb for it however I can’t seem to get the cover off the passenger side lamp to replace it. Any suggestions?
For halogen lamps, it is normal for a n old bulb to be dimmer than a new one, it is due to residue of the filament that deposits on the glass of the bulb and thus darkens the glass with time.
The cover on the passenger side is tricky, you have to fumble quite a bit this way and that to take it off. Unfortunately, the same applies when rplacing the cover.
I am sorry that I cannot be more precise.
The other way is remove the headlight itself, then it is easy to do the job, but you need to remove the bumper cover to access the bolts retaining the headlamps.
Best regards,
Thomas

If you do a Bumper off watch on youtube "sarka on the ring jaguar xjr"
10min job if all screws are letting loose. Put it just down on a big cardboard . Undo the 2 lower screws of the headlights . Change bulbs both sides D1s .
This will give you the opportunety to clean up the three ground studs and the cable connector rings to them( behind the headlights). One Lh, 2 rh . Go carefully at them they snap off easely and do not overtorque them. In that case replace the studs with aluminium screws and nuts
Have a look at your main coolant radiator if swollen time for a change

D1S is the designation for the HID (Xenon) bulbs.
@Flex320: you did not state what kind of headlights you car has, Xenon or halogen. I assumed halogen because of your statement of the dimmer older bulb.

Thomas
