Angry $600 for a bulb??? Obscene

Recently had warranty service preformed for AC fan blower motor. Driver side headlight had just gone out. SA priced replacement of "burner" at $600. $150 to diagnose and $450 for the replacement and labor.

Exhorbitant Ludicrous and Obscene. Highway Robbery at its worst. Is this some sick joke. Baptism by fire!!!!

Isn't a decent bulb about $80-100???

Is your entire headlight unit bad???

A replacement HID bulb from DDM Tuning is pretty affordable...check out their website.

What dealer are you going to? Perhaps you should say so that others can avoid them if they are trying to bend people over like that...

I have to question the SA further but he emailed me that the "burner" was bad. I assume that is a metaphor for bulb. Is it not??

An entire headlamp replacement is $1200 so not likely the whole assembly.

Just spoke to SA. Yes just the bulb to be replaced. Total cost $450. Ludicrous.

GAH! $600 ???

I am positively NOT an authority on modern automotive lighting....Jaguar or otherwise.... but some quick Googling suggests you can get aftermarket replacements for under $100.

<shrug>

I think "factory boxed" replacement bulbs might be universally outrageous. One site listed a genuine BMW replacement bulb at "just $454" or something like that.

I didn't dig any deeper. This sorta money ....even $100 for an aftermarket....is wayyyyy out of my comfort zone for a headlight bulb :-)

Cheers
DD

Again, I get my replacement HID bulbs from DDM tuning.

DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting

I have one (from them) in my wife's VDP right now, and also put both new in the 07XKR I had...

dont do it!

you can purchase your own bulb and do it yourself.....or even have a mechanic put it in for you for less than $150

Maybe by "burner" he's referring to the HID bulb's electronic ballast unit? Little flat, square box-of-tricks about three inches square or so?

From the Urban Dictionary...

Burned
1) an expression used to describe a particularly harsh insult (a burn)
2) an expression used when someone had a negative past experience
3) when an extreme amount of heat is applied to something long enough to alter it
Man, you got burned by that loser!
My childhood really burned me.
Damnit, the toaster burned me!

That dealership is not making for repeat buyers if they charging customers like that. When it comes time for a new car, the consumer remembers...

Well stated. I appreciated the warranty work which is contractual however very unimpressed with non warranty work. The prices are exorbitant. Very offensive. $450 for a headlamp bulb install. Really now.

I will remember!!!

$450 would be between 3 and 4 hours labour ... that's pretty ambitious for a bulb install.

In the mid 70s I drove my XJ6C from Cleveland to Denver in Jan. On the way the heater quit. I went to Denver Jag, whoever they were at the time, and they fixed it for 2 hrs labor and $100 parts cost.

The part? A plastic vacuum valve available in any parts store for $2. I questioned the price, vigorously. They called NJ to get to the bottom of it. Everybody knew something was amiss but there was nobody in North America who would own the problem.

In sum, the answer was "There is no earthly reason for our parts pricing policy. It' just our policy". Nothing has changed in 40 years. Sounds a lot like the Army don't it .
