Default Headliner replacement 2005 VDP

Well, I finally have to have the headliner replaced in my 2005 VDP. It started drooping over the back seat but now it's separating in other places too. The local guy who does the work says he's either got to take the windshield out or fold the headliner board to take it out and put it back. He assures me that the creases will go after a short time.

My question is, is there a way to get the head board out without having to do the above?

He has quoted me $400.00 for the job.

That is a good price, and yes you have to take out the the front or rear windshield. I got lucky and my front windshield was cracked so with my $100 deductible , and the dealer set up the window gut to take out the old, and come back after they put the headliner in. It was perfect.

Have done it at home on two vehicles. Removed rear seat and one front seat and while I did have a slight fold in backing board during remove/install, there was no evidence visible in result. Did not want to remove glass.

I had a guy do my headliner and didn't have to fold the board or remove glass in my 2007 VDP. I paid $500 but upgraded the material used and had the sunroof panel redone also.

I am going to have mine (2004 XJR) replaced this Spring. I have two quotes for $450.00. Both say they will not have to take out the windshield. They can take out the front seat and the rear bottom cushion and get it out. I will let you know how it turns out.

Default Headliner Replacement

I have been told, you need to remove the "REAR" glass, as the headliner board will not fit through any door. I have owned 5 Jaguars (3 at present) I have had to replace EVERY Headliner, one of the disappointments with Jag. Don't know why they can't get it right ! So a more important question, for me. Is it is now time to do headliner in my 05 XJ8L DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET THE ORIGINAL FABRIC ??? Mine is a Cream or Bone color, but has a Nap to it, like wool, or ? There are NO similar fabrics at Upholstery shops. My sun visors, sun roof, pillars, would not have to be done "if" I could find the original fabric. Thanks in advance if you have an answer.

You can get an almost perfect match to Jag colors at

Automotive Cloth Headliner

order the $5 "color sample" card. Then use this to match exactly to what you have. The material is pretty much what came with the car originally (good or bad depending on how you feel about this type of headliner material)

Default Headliner source

Google wollies.uk you will get to wollies-trim, there you will find headliner material. The material used in Jags has only 1/4" foam backing. This is preferred so the sunroof panel will not bind. They have it. Most other sources only offer 1/2 foam backing.

I had to replace my headliner on my car and I had my done for 300.00 and the shop did not have to take out the glass , my 2nd quote was 325.00 and also no glass removal , third quote 500.00 plus $$$ for glass removal you are at the mercy of the glass tech if they are not famalair with Jags possible problems down the road.

No need to remove the glass. With the Passenger front seat removed along with the rear seat, the headliner will come out with only a minor bend being needed that seems to spring back to its original contour quickly with no damage to the material.

Ask him if he needs to remove engine and transmission to replace headliner.
Tell him, you'll pay when crises disappear.
